State Rep. Priscilla Taylor has filed a complaint with West Palm Beach's mayor and the chief of police claiming an officer who pulled her over last month did so just because she is black.
In Taylor's letter, dated Nov. 14, she states that officer Steve Regis pulled her over Nov. 12 on Congress Avenue shortly after she left the Palm Beach Mall about 6:15 p.m., where she'd been shopping for luggage.
"I knew I was not violating any law," the letter states. "I was not acting suspicious, not speeding, had not run any lights and had no problem with my vehicle."
When Regis walked up to Taylor's blue 2005 Mercedes Benz, she asked him why he stopped her.
"Because I can," he replied, according to her complaint.
