Reporter: Williams wants his freedom
WHITFIELD: And are prosecutors right when they say that it's not just pushing for clemency, to have life in prison on parole or without parole, but instead that he actually wants release?

BRESLAU: Well, I thought that was the most interesting thing he said in the interview. When I asked him, "Is it true, as the prosecutors told the governor, that this is not about clemency. You want out?" And he said, "If I am innocent, if the district attorney were an innocent man, and he were in my position, wouldn't he fight? Why shouldn't I fight?" Implicitly saying, "Look, you know, if I live to fight another day, I'm going to continue to appeal this."

The rest is here:

Well, so much for clemency for Williams being all about death vs. life in prison without the possibility of parole. Let's just put that myth to rest.

1. But it would be
all about death vs. life in prison unless he were proven not guilty.

Of course if he is dead his guilt or lack of it doesn't matter.

4. Actually, that's wrong
He would not need to be "proven not guilty" to be set free. All he'd need would be to find a sympathetic or politically calculating governor or a judge who sees a technicality where no one has in over a quarter century (or has some political reason to appeal to the people who are lobbying for Williams ... sort of a reverse Roy Moore). In any case, I think that it's disingenuous for Williams' supporters to repeatedly paint it as life w/o parole vs. death when many of them, and Williams himself, see clemency as step one in getting out again.

Moreover, I think that a plea for clemency, iwhich you claim that you've changed and ask for the ultimate forgiveness, is logically at odds with saying that you didn't do it and not taking responsibility.

5. Where has any Williams supporter called for his release?
Is there some publicity I have missed? I don't think it is fair to project the desires of Williams onto those that do not support his death at the hands of the state. I don't ever want to see the guy free. Even if he didn't commit these murders, he did start a murderous gang of thugs that has caused many deaths and a lot of pain. But I don't believe that the death penalty is just or reasonable in any circumstance. If anyone wants more info on this stance please reference my answer to this thread question

9. He didn't call for his release
He called for a fair re-trial. If he is found innocent in a fair re-trial (an eventuality that I sincerely doubt) The law of the land says that he should go free. I don't believe in imprisoning innocents. I doubt Tookie is innocent but it doesn't change the fact that murder is wrong, state-sponsored or otherwise. Not only that but dead men tell no tales. We can learn nothing from a corpse and it is obvious that murder still happens with or without the death penalty so it is a worthless and wasteful punishment. Retribution never heals but redemption heals in perpetuity.

2. "If I am innocent..."
Something keeps him from saying he's innocent, or he'd do so.

3. Every prisoner hopes to get out
Whether or not they do so is up to the justice system.

This is about justice, not about what Mr. Williams wants.

You don't have to support the death penalty to believe that some people should not move freely about among the greater society.

8. Are you saying they're not posts?
Just wondering why you put the word POST in quotes. They are, indeed, actual posts.
