Bush set to give final speech before Iraq vote ( Dem's say where's plan?)
CNN does not report on the Reid, Reed, and Levin 10:15 this am prebuttal to the President's speech, but does report on the letter (signed by at least 41 Democratic Senators) in which they praise the troops and express their hope for successful elections, saying also "While we appreciate your recent speeches on this issue, we regret that the American people have still not been presented with a plan that identifies the remaining political, economic, and military benchmarks that must be met and a reasonable schedule to achieve them. We hope you will use Wednesday's speech to finally provide a detailed explanation of your strategy for the successful completion of the mission in Iraq." - Is CNN trying to be "fair"?

Bush set to give final speech before Iraq vote
President has sought to bolster support for war policy

Wednesday, December 14, 2005; Posted: 10:47 a.m. EST (15:47 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- <snip>

Before the speech, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, said 41 Democratic senators had sent a letter to Bush "to show that we need to get things right in Iraq after these elections."

"The president has had a number of speeches -- three in number -- and he has still not focused on what needs to be done in convincing the American people and showing the American people what his plan is in Iraq," Reid said.

Sen. Jack Reed, D-Rhode Island, said the letter urges the Bush administration "to tell the leaders of all groups and political parties in Iraq that they need to make the compromises necessary to achieve the broad-based and sustainable political settlement that is necessary for defeating the insurgency."

"The president still has not stated how long his administration believes the (war) will take and how much it will cost in terms of funding and in terms of the commitment of American military and civilian personnel," Reed said.<snip>

1. I'd say, judging from the quality of his last 3 speeches
that his speechwriters have abandoned him. The speeches are stupid, ridiculous. It's just 45 l-o-n-g minutes of drivel, the same old crap he's flogged us with the past 5 years. "Freedom", "democracy", total victory, victory, peaceful, ad nauseum.

When he says, "I'll settle for nothing less than total victory", no one knows what he means. I think Rove has been writing these rotten speeches. They should sell them as a sleep aid. They work better than Nite-All.
