Shiite protesters burn Allawi's offices
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Angry Shiites marched Wednesday and set fire to the offices of a secular politician after a Sunni Arab guest criticized Iraq's Shiite religious leaders during an Al-Jazeera talk show.

"The headquarters was attacked by militiamen who broke inside and set fire to the building. This is a terrorist act that contradicts democracy and this is the reason we are calling for eliminating the militia groups in Iraq," Allawi spokesman Thaer al-Naqib told The Associated Press.

Several Shiite groups still maintain armed militias.

"Those militiamen consider the political process as a threat to them and they want to stop this process. Those militia groups are working against the hopes of the Iraqi people and they should be finished," al-Naqib said.

1. Freedom...
...is on the retreat.

I wonder if Allawi fiddled while his offices burned. Maybe he could put in a call to 'Nero' at the WH for violin lessons.

4. huh
"I hope he was in it" :wtf:

I simply don't get the love for the anti democratic Iranian militias here who are actually going around killing opposition candidates and burning down their offices.

The militias show how f**ked up and non-democratic Iraq is.

And, some people here seem to support what they are doing and hope they kill their political opposition. :wtf:

6. America and its CIA puppet have no business in Iraq
American troops are merely delaying the inevitable - a wider civil war.

7. And that has what to do with hoping an Iranian trained militia
kills a political candidate before an election?

14. No, it has to do with my belief that America needs to GET OUT OF THE WAY
And let these people solve their differences. Who the hell do we think we are anyway, sticking our noses in these people's lives. LOL. God we are arrogant as hell. All for $500 billion. LOL.

16. Again what does that have to do
saying that it would be a good thing if a politician was killed?

This discussion has nothing to do with the US you are using a staw man.

17. I don't know
Why don't you ask the person who said he hoped Allawi was killed?

11. "CIA puppet"? Try looking in the direction of the NeoCons, and....
...their Pentagon-based intelligence organization.

Knowing what the NeoCons did to publicly expose CIA operative Valerie Plame, why would the CIA support a NeoCon operative?

8. Allawi is the person who's most likely
to support US (not Iraqi) interests. Perhaps that's why the poster made that statement.

10. Who the hell cares what he supports
It doesn't matter if he supports the interests of China no one deserves to be killed for running for office.

19. "No one deserves to be killed for running for office."...
Yeah. Iraq didn't deserve to be invaded. 100,000 civilians (Lancet# ) didn't deserve to die. That little Iraqi boy (you all have seen the picture) didn't deserve to have both his arms blown off by American bombs.

I would like for the Iraqis to have a sovereign government. As it stands now, they are not sovereign, contrary to what Great Leader says. Of course, he can't even define the term... But I digress.

Bremer ensured the status quo with his 100 orders, just before he got outta town, his pockets stuffed with money no doubt. Now we're looking for another puppet who will approve the Production Sharing Agreements so we can control the oil until the last drop is gone.

The way I look at it, if Allawi or any of those other thugs want to live in the fast lane, I guess they have to take their chances. Not my concern.

9. What I don't get?
The is that somebody seem to have Iraq all figured out to the such a degree, that they are willing to throw their support behind the US-backed candidate who also has a large militia.

Is this the same guy that might have funnelled 1.3 billion out of Iraq? Is this candidate the one that was caught redhanded with 300 million loaded onto a plane to reportedly to buy 'arms' from a private Lebenese arms dealer?

Same guy that was a former-Baathist, former CIA-supported -- etc etc.

Why wouldn't Allawi get attacked by Iraqis--especially Shi'ites.

The US f*cked up bad--own it

12. Please don't tell me that you're buying that "Iranian militia" nonsense...
...You do realize that those stories are being planted in the media to attempt to build up support for an American invasion of Iran, don't you?

20. Do you know what the Madhi Army is?
There are tons of militant groups in Iraq. Trying to paint a picture of one group causing most of the attacks is ridiculous and contrary to the facts.

If I recall correctly, a source no less biased than the US Military put out that 90% of the insurgency is Iraqi.

It seems that Iraqis are simply fighting a foreign occupation force. That includes the puppets and collaborators of that oppressive force as well (the secular left in Iraq has lost almost all support because they unfortunately worked with the US). How is that wrong?
