1. He had to after HC made it an issue.
Hillary goaded him into it with her recent remarks. Hillary has been a giant disappointment, I had very high hopes when she undertook the health care planning when BC first became President.

4. she was a goldwaterite in college
that was in the days of Rev King and Selma/Birmingham etc...the Soviet Union was walking around on broken legs, and Mao was imposing only god knows on the Chinese, who were faced with a nuclear armed western enemy. All this says Hillary wasn't that sympathetic to ordinary people: the USSR wasn't a bad thing, if left alone, and the Chinese didn't have to suffer so much just to get by survive- black america had earned everything it asked for, yet goldwater saw them all as evil versus his own good....too bad, but Hillary Clinton surely now knows better, yet pretends she's a fool for christ sake

14. His visit was a "coincidence"? Bullshit
snip -

Cheney's aides said the timing was a coincidence, but regardless, the two events combined in a public relations blitz aimed at capitalizing on the elections to rebuild support for the unpopular war.

snip -

Cheney flew around the Baghdad area in a pack of eight fast-moving Blackhawk helicopters with guns mounted on the sides. He flew along the airport road that has been the site of many insurgent attacks and passed over the courthouse where Saddam's Hussein's trial is being held.

snip -

"You've heard some prominent voices advocating a sudden withdrawal of our forces from Iraq," Cheney told hundreds of service members gathered to hear a "mystery guest." "Some have suggested that the war is not winnable and a few seem almost eager to conclude the struggle is already over. But they are wrong. The only way to lose this fight is to quit and that is not an option."

So, he just happens to be in Iraq the very day W is going to once again spew his lies to the nation. They once again put more pressure on our men and women by having extra tight security protecting his ass. and of course, he spews his right wing agenda to his handpicked, captive audience. I'm sick to death of this adminstration using our troops to boost their ratings.

"Cheney flew around the Baghdad area in a pack of eight fast-moving Blackhawk helicopters with guns mounted on the sides. He flew along the airport road that has been the site of many insurgent attacks and passed over the courthouse where Saddam's Hussein's trial is being held."

Talk about the grand tour.

28. Sneaks, liars, thieves, and sneaks
everything these people do they sneak, then lie about what they did afterwards, I'm so tired of being governed by sneaks.
There was a time when an American official was welcomed into foreign countries with brass bands and welcome arms, now we sneak in and slink out.

31. NO JOKE!
That country is well in hand alright. So peaceful that the VP has to sneak in and out before it hits the new....to keep from getting blown up! The shot I saw of him coming off the plane seemed like an empty tarmac. A couple of greeters and some dude w/camera (he probably ran off right before the VP)

21. Does anyone really care?
This is another effort to change the subject. I think we can pretty much guess what profound and hard "news" will come from this glorious visit. Chaney loves the troops and the troops love Chaney and how wonderful and wise our President is, etc. About as objective as another "live" report from Oliver North.

30. Yeah, it's beautiful that she got good coverage for it too. I think...
...that she got some intel from the now-leaking-like-a-gutshot-pig administration that he was going and in an effective gamble, challenged him to do what she already knew he was going to do. Regardless of what you think of Hillary, and I'm not a big fan, I think it was a slick slap in his flabby face. Or, if you will, a "Go fuck yourself, Dick!"

Stop reading now. As a wild aside, what the shit is this Clinton family vs Bush family vieing for the presidency shit? I mean, fuck all that noise. This country has almost 300 MILLION people- Isn't there somebody who DOESN'T have the last name Clinton or Bush that I can vote for? It's nothing more than disturbing brand recognition on a political level.

Both sides seemingly attempting to set up dynasties makes me want to puke.

PB

Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 05:57 PM by Onlooker
if we could get a woman president, especially from the Democrats, it would be beautiful. It would change the political landscape forever. (I started to turn against hawk Hillary, but am reconsidering, because she's a woman and it would piss off the righties so much if another Clinton was in the WH.)

27. This article is now on Yahoo News.
There's a photo of Cheney sitting at a table, eating lunch? Maybe dinner? Anyway, he's sitting with the troops.

Now, notice Cheney's face. Look at his mouth. He's trying to smile. The right hand is turned down, and the left side is turned up. It looks like he's had a stroke, or he's so twisted that he can't even smile.

Either way, his little Photo Op is doomed.

So he flew over Baghdad at high speed in an armed Blackhawk helicopter, flanked by seven others Blackhawks for back-up. Whoopee. He sure as hell didn't put his boots on the ground with the grunts who are getting blown up in their tanks, did he? Chimpy will probably give him a medal for his "high-risk mission" in Iraq.
