Sununu takes heat from Bush

The Associated Press

He wasn't singled out by name, but Sen. John Sununu took a broadside from President Bush yesterday for helping hold up reauthorization of the Patriot Act, the country's disputed anti-terrorism law.

...

He was criticizing senators, mostly Democrats, who have prevented the extension from coming to a vote. The law expires at year's end. But Sununu, who is often a strong supporter of the Bush's policies, was among a handful of Republicans who also opposed extending the law as is.

...

Sununu said he and other critics have spoken with the administration to no avail about changes that would ensure wider support while not undermining law enforcement.

"No substantive material has been provided to argue how our specific changes would weaken or undermine law enforcement's ability to do its job in pursuing terrorists," he said last week.

1. Sounds like Sununu would like to create a little space
You know, not appear to be quite such a lackey for the corrupt Bush administration. I wonder why?

2. 10-15 Years in Jail, Probably
New Hampshire wouldn't stand for it, either. And he is representative of his state.

3. I heard Sununu on NPR yesterday
I have to admit that I was impressed by his interview. He presented a strong case which if it had come out of a Democrat's mouth, I suspect would have had people around here falling over themselves to endorse and cheer on.

He basically accused the * admin of being unwilling to compromise on a bi-partisan agenda to address concerns about the Patriot Act. Concerns, by the way, which were written up into legislation over two yeats ago. He says it's the administration which is playing politics by refusing to consider an three month extension while they work-out their differences.

I cheer anyone (even Sununu) who doesn't support the unPATRIOTic Act.

5. I wish they would scrap that whole darn Act
They rolled out the Patiot Act as soon as 911 happened. I guess they were preparing in PNAC's office in their spare time waiting for a new Pearl Harbor.

7. It sure worked out well for them
Halliburton and cheney have riches beyond their wildest dreams. Wolfowitz has the World Bank. The whitewash continues to this day and the oil companies are rich, the weapons manufacturers are rich.
I will open the bubbly when this corrupt regime is gone for good.
