Ruling may create new interest in intelligent design movement

By DEBORAH BACH
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

While some saw a federal ruling Tuesday as a major blow to the proponents of "intelligent design," a Seattle organization that is one of the movement's key figures slammed the decision as a futile attempt at government censorship that could actually further its message.

"We think (U.S. District Judge John Jones III) really overreached. He basically used this to step on a soapbox and pontificate about his views on intelligent design and even religion," said John West, a senior fellow at the Center for Science and Culture.

"If a judge ... thinks that getting a federal court ban in a particular school district is going to stop people from thinking about or researching intelligent design, I think he's living in a different world than I am."

More wishful thinking in the face of complete defeat at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer

2. Certainly they'll use this setback . . .
To lash up their foaming, knuckle-dragging fans.

But school boards around the country -- including fundie ones -- will think twice before sticking their heads in the ID hornet's nest.

This is a Good Thing.

5. I agree.
The ruling will not change the mind of any of the religious nutcakes. This battle has gone on for over a hundred years. It will still be going on for another hundred years.

6. West obviously hasn't read the opinion
Judge Jones took his duties seriously in considering this case, and addressed one by one practically every ID contention, and then demolished them from their lame protestations that ID isn't back-door creationism to their outright lying about the true nature of their agenda. If West truly thinks Judge Jones "overreached," I for one would be greatly interested in West's chapter and verse (you should pardon the expression) refutation of the opinion.

Otherwise, Mr. West, have a nice big steaming cup of shut the fuck up.

7. "Stop people from thinking about or researching intelligent design"
You'd think since John West is a SENIOR fellow he would realize that thinking and researching had nothing to do with the judges ruling. John, the judge has made it perfectly clear, you and your kind want to force your beliefs on the populace and that just ain't hunkydory relative to the constitution and the wishes of the founding fathers. So go on and obfuscate and whine and blather on about being persecuted. But never stop being ignorant of how lucky you are to live in this country to be able to think and research all you want. Think about that.

11. When is the ID thinking and research going to start?
Seems to me the central problem with ID is that its proponents haven't done any. Come back in a few decades when you've got something to hang a theory on beyond "I dunno--guess God musta done it."

10. To quote a Freeper:
He did not decide what religion was or was not, he decided what science is or is not.

Which says to me, that Scanlon's "religious whackos" are buying too much free time from our so-called journalists.

12. I'll take their word regarding their claim that for them ID is not a spin
on creation. IMO this implies that their own level of intelligence should make them wonder if they were designed (created) with a fair share of intelligence.

13. It's simple, really.
Science is based on fact, religion is based on myth. One is true, one isn't. Speaking of pontificating, nothing beats the overwrought pontifications of religious freaks. As the idiot in Dover, PA said, "This fight isn't over and the ACLU knows it." Gosh, I'm absolutely petrified. To arms, to arms! The overwrought, insecure, right-wing Christian douchebags are coming!! And they don't look happy!! They're scowling, in fact!

Judge Jones considered the case on its merits, or more specifically, the complete lack thereof. Mr. West and his Crispy Christians took a hefty helping of asswhip home as their prize. Judge Jones overreached?????? Now there's some sweet, fookin' irony for you.

15. LOL... Totaly Intentionaly missing the point...
dead giveaway that they are full of shit.

The judge never intended to silence anyone. He just said that the constitution states that ID can not be taught as science in public schools.
Its not like he banned books on it.
The case was a complete slam dunk when you read even part of the ruleing. The suprising thing to me is how much the platifs were able to get Behe and co. to admit on the stand.

I seriously suspect that many of these IDiots are either insane or lack the intelegence to comprehend the very concept of science never mind constitutional law or evolutionary theory.
