Tsunami was God's revenge for your wicked ways, women told
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 12:42 AM by Thom Little
Marluddin Jalil, a Sharia judge who has ordered the punishment of women for not wearing headscarves, was uncompromising: “The tsunami was because of the sins of the people of Aceh.”

Thundering into a microphone at a gathering of wives, he made clear where he felt the fault lay: “The Holy Koran says that if women are good, then a country is good.”

A year after the disaster which many see as a divine punishment, emboldened Islamic hardliners are doing their best to eradicate sin — and women are their prime targets.

.......

The Islamic law introduced without popular enthusiasm in 2002 has been implemented rigorously since the tsunami, especially in towns such as Lhokseumawe, where Fatimah Syam, of Indonesian Women for Legal Justice, knows of 20 women who have fallen foul of it.

She said: “They seek out women without headscarves or unmarried girls meeting boys in private and parade them through the streets in an open car. I’ve seen the police laughing and boasting, and the girls in tears. The Sharia police say the tsunami happened because women ignored religion. We never heard of this parading before the tsunami.”

1. Obviously taking his cues from Falwell and Robertson
Damn, we uppity women cause all kinds of havoc, don't we? Seriously though, this is really scary. Especially since people apparently believe it, as the article indicates.

This is similar to Falwell (or Robertson or whoever it was)
...saying 9-11 happened because of gays. Katrina happened because of all the 'sin' going on in New Orleans.

Whatta buncho whackos.

10. They were together on that one and both agreed, so both
actually said it in a way. So true. Talibornagains, as SR put it. Perfect analogy.

2. Some day I would very much like to read about one of these jerks
getting torn limb from limb by men who realized their mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters had just been called whores.

I'd like to hear about one who was found beaten to a bloody pulp by the village women, who were sick of being called whores by some pustule of a barely repressed closet queen who just generally despised any human being who would let a man do "that" to them, since the desire for it is what he most fears within himself.

But what I'd really love is for one of them to issue those horrible, anti human pronouncements and get struck by lightning on the spot, right in front of the whole village, preferably with a camera rolling somewhere.

Hell, if that happened, I'd finally give lipservice to religion.

But it never will, none of it. Men love to have hatred focused on their mothers, sisters, wives and daughters. Women are never able to get it together to take care of these scumbags. And there is no god.

17. You and me both...
It's called PROJECTION and it's responsible for a lot of the hatred and violence going on in the world. Just once, I like to see someone who is man enough to own his own shit instead of projecting it all on to women.

3. Fundies are all cut from the same cloth
This is proof that Marx was right about religion being the people's narcotic of choice.

6. Religious intolerance is a problem many religions have failed to solve
There are always a few nutjobs who fail to acknowledge that each and every individual is given the gift of free will in addition to the gift of reason. As a result, not everybody will come to the same conclusions, and they have not yet (or perhaps never will?) come to tolerate those different views. It is religious intolerance that has claimed the lives of so many innocent men, women, and children, and it has been used as a tool by those who wish to seek power for their own gain to divide a populace before conquering it. People never learn.

7. And I suppose they aren't going after all the men who sell their daughters
into prostitution?

Isn't that ignoring religion? Oh, wait. Cracking down on MALE evil will cut into village profits.

Can't have religion keepin' out the $$$$$$$$

13. Bingo!
They would never DREAM of blaming men for anything. This kind of stuff sickens me. It's always the woman's fault with these so-called "religious" morans.

8. Yeah, the Dover school district has been put on notice
by these American fundies. They so equate with the Taliban mentality. But at least American fundamentalists know that there are enough of "liberal" American women around that we'll slap them down with their idiocy.

11. The men are never responsible for anything, are they?
Men who are not responsible for their actions should not be allowed to vote or own property. And, in public, they need to be leashed.

12. Only the straight ones.
Zoom back to the US. It was me, my partner of 4 years, and other Sodomites who unleashed the floods on the Gulf Coast...oh, and 9-11! Of course, the reason we are treated the way we are is because of the hate for women. The very idea that a man would not want a "submissive" partner, but an equal is heresy. The very idea that a man could take on traits of a woman...sinful!

So, fags or bitches...we are the ones destroying the Earth. :eyes:

I find it so very interesting that these asswipes never considered that G-d was punishing THEM because of the way THEY treat His creation, woman! Who knows, maybe if we treated all peoples equally, with respect, and treated the Earth and her creatures with that respect, we might not see some of the horrors we have seen? Then again, G-d, She is a tricky one. ;)
