Montanans back Alito confirmation, poll shows
this is scary ...

HELENA - Montana voters support the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court, a new Lee Newspapers poll shows.

Some 45 percent of Montana voters said they support the U.S. Senate's endorsement of Alito to the top court. Only 17 percent said they were opposed to his confirmation. Thirty-eight percent were undecided.

The telephone poll was conducted Dec. 13-15 by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. of Washington, D.C. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.
Alito, 55, is a 15-year veteran of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. President Bush nominated him this fall to fill the vacant spot on the nation's highest court created by the retirement of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

Appointments, which must pass muster in the U.S. Senate, are for a lifetime.

1. Do They Support "Unlimited Wiretapping"?
Alito supports "Unlimited wiretapping".
Do Montana voters agree? Or don't they know?

8. Montanans are far from stupid.
Maybe Brian Schweitzer hasn't spoken up about Alito yet, or spoken loud enough for his constituents to hear him. They have great respect for him. He has one of the highest ratings of all governors.

9. I figured I might provoke flames, but sorry...
...maybe Montanans haven't looked at Alito's record and what he's about. In which case, of course, they'd be ignorant or even perhaps lazy, but certainly not stupid. My bad. If, however, Montanans have actually looked at the man's record and still manage to reach the conclusion that he belongs on the United States Supreme Court, well then, that's another matter altogether.

10. This is one of the dumbest polls I've seen
As though ANYONE is paying attention to the Alito confirmation. Even I've been sort of out of the loop on that one.

Polls during the holiday season are meaningless. Few people are thinking about politics. The last few weeks people are running around stores like chickens with their heads cut off buying a bunch of plastic junk.

At this point, if you ask a lot of Americans whom Alito is, they'd say wholito?

13. telephone poll

of people who likely know nothing about Alito- and could well have been "pushed."

Not a very accurate reflection of reality, methinks.

More likely an effort to influence representatives and public opinion.
