U.S. stalls on human trafficking
Pentagon has yet to ban contractors from using forced labor

WASHINGTON -- Three years ago, President Bush declared that he had "zero tolerance" for trafficking in humans by the government's overseas contractors, and two years ago Congress mandated a similar policy.

But notwithstanding the president's statement and the congressional edict, the Defense Department has yet to adopt a policy to bar human trafficking.

A proposal prohibiting defense contractor involvement in human trafficking for forced prostitution and labor was drafted by the Pentagon last summer, but five defense lobbying groups oppose key provisions and a final policy still appears to be months away, according to those involved and Defense Department records.

The lobbying groups opposing the plan say they're in favor of the idea in principle, but said they believe that implementing key portions of it overseas is unrealistic. They represent thousands of firms, including some of the industry's biggest names, such as DynCorp International and Halliburton subsidiary KBR, both of which have been linked to trafficking-related concerns.

1. It doesn't surprise me at all.
The justification for the war now (because the first was a lie) is that Saddam was a bad guy. But he was a bad guy that said he didn't like us. The US has always looked the other way when it comes to human rights violations so long as the leaders of the nations responsible say they like us.

2. Same thing here in the U.S. - Where big business won't pay
minimum wage but will hire illegals immigrants from Mexico for much less. Where is the United Farm Workers Union that Ceser Chavez fought so hard to organize?

junior tell us that the immigrants are only doing work that Americans don't want.

3. Lifetime TV had a very brave series on human trafficking and the
multi-billion dollar industry from children and young people forced into prostitution and had a segment afterwards with an interview with Johnny Gosche's mother (Jeff Gannon)

There is a blogsite and information on how you can help to stop this. I read that Oprah also had a recent show and given the problems with Conspiracy of Silence and other previous attempts at televising this horror, I think we should support the media when they do something courageous.

PBS had a show on torture and blamed bush and his thugs, no whitewash.

4. I watch PBS and must have missed that program.
Living here in Midland Texas, the PBS station will pass over many programs that doesn't put junior in a favorable light.

For example, last Friday night instead showing "Now" we got to watch Tom Craddick lit the Christmas tree and hear music.
