Tribune-Review publisher's wife charged with trespass (R Mellon Scaife)
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05361/628424.stm

The estranged wife of the publisher of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review was arrested Friday and charged with defiant trespass after refusing to leave her husband's Shadyside residence.

Pittsburgh police said they were called to the home of Richard Mellon Scaife, at 5201 Westminster Place, at about 7 p.m. Friday. Mr. Scaife called police because his wife, Ritchie Scaife, was pounding on doors and peeking in windows.

When police arrived, Mrs. Scaife, who was in the back yard, was told to leave. She did, but only for about 15 minutes, police said. When she returned, she refused officers' orders to leave and was arrested. She was charged with defiant trespass and released on her own recognizance.

A hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

The Origins of the Overclass

By Steve Kangas

The wealthy have always used many methods to accumulate wealth, but it was not until the mid-1970s that these methods coalesced into a superbly organized, cohesive and efficient machine. After 1975, it became greater than the sum of its parts, a smooth flowing organization of advocacy groups, lobbyists, think tanks, conservative foundations, and PR firms that hurtled the richest 1 percent into the stratosphere.

The origins of this machine, interestingly enough, can be traced back to the CIA. This is not to say the machine is a formal CIA operation, complete with code name and signed documents. (Although such evidence may yet surface — and previously unthinkable domestic operations such as MK-ULTRA, CHAOS and MOCKINGBIRD show this to be a distinct possibility.) But what we do know already indicts the CIA strongly enough. Its principle creators were Irving Kristol, Paul Weyrich, William Simon, Richard Mellon Scaife, Frank Shakespeare, William F. Buckley, Jr., the Rockefeller family, and more. Almost all the machine's creators had CIA backgrounds.

During the 1970s, these men would take the propaganda and operational techniques they had learned in the Cold War and apply them to the Class War. Therefore it is no surprise that the American version of the machine bears an uncanny resemblance to the foreign versions designed to fight communism. The CIA's expert and comprehensive organization of the business class would succeed beyond their wildest dreams. In 1975, the richest 1 percent owned 22 percent of America’s wealth. By 1992, they would nearly double that, to 42 percent — the highest level of inequality in the 20th century.

How did this alliance start? The CIA has always recruited the nation’s elite: millionaire businessmen, Wall Street brokers, members of the national news media, and Ivy League scholars. During World War II, General "Wild Bill" Donovan became chief of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the CIA. Donovan recruited so exclusively from the nation’s rich and powerful that members eventually came to joke that "OSS" stood for "Oh, so social!"

Another early elite was Allen Dulles, who served as Director of the CIA from 1953 to 1961. Dulles was a senior partner at the Wall Street firm of Sullivan and Cromwell, which represented the Rockefeller empire and other mammoth trusts, corporations and cartels. He was also a board member of the J. Henry Schroeder Bank, with offices in Wall Street, London, Zurich and Hamburg. His financial interests across the world would become a conflict of interest when he became head of the CIA. Like Donavan, he would recruit exclusively from society’s elite.

19. If you search Scaife and Foundation on the net, you will see that many
funds are processed through her. Her signature is probably on a lot of legal papers, She is not a wallflower in their set-up.

Well, you all know, that he led the team to character assassinate and remove Clinton by driving the initiative and funding a lot of it.

To get Cllinton = he funded a magazine - American Spectator. He funded Rutherford Foundation (who arranged a private publicist and makeover for Paula). Alot of the propagandist faces that you see on tv today got their start by appearing on tv and (conincidently?) saying exactly what he accused Clinton of. I always imagined that he had a direct phone line to Dan Burton and Henry Hyde and subsequently, to Barr, Tillie, and all the others. I think he directed the impeachment from his little estate.

36. Fundies don't actually hate population control
They don't actually care about "the sanctity of human life," they are anti-abortion because they want to punish women who have sex. My guess is that they're secretly (or maybe not so secretly) all in favor of population control, so long as the controlled population is "those people."

14. It was a shotgun to the chest type hunting "accident"
Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 06:39 PM by billbuckhead
"In Duggan's third term as D.A., the Internal Revenue Service and Richard Thornburgh, then the U.S. attorney for Western Pennsylvania (and later governor and U.S. attorney general), opened investigations into Duggan's sources of income and relations with criminal elements.

At first Scaife stood by his friend, even lobbying the Nixon administration to call Thornburgh off. But friends of Scaife's, apparently prodded by Thornburgh's investigators, brought him evidence of Duggan's wrongdoing that convinced him that Duggan was corrupt.

But Cordelia Scaife concluded that the world was unfairly out to get her old friend, and – to the amazement of Pittsburgh's social and political worlds – she decided to marry him secretly in Nevada. Scaife was livid when he heard about the wedding. Weeks after the marriage was announced, Thornburgh tightened the noose around Duggan. With help from a local gangster who finally agreed to testify that he had made payoffs to the D.A., Thornburgh brought a six-count indictment charging Duggan with tax fraud.

On the day the indictment was returned – March 5, 1974 – Duggan was found dead on his farm in Ligonier. His body had a shotgun wound in the chest; a shotgun was found a few feet away. A police investigation concluded that he died by accident or suicide, but many suspicious people doubted this explanation. One was Cordelia, who decided, according to numerous sources, that somehow, her brother was involved. She broke off relations with her brother and has not spoken to him since."

41. Good old Bob Duggan, I barely remember his death, it was front page news.
Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 01:57 AM by happyslug
Allegheny County District Attorney at the time of his death in 1974 Had just been indicted by a Federal Grand jury for obstructing Justice relating to bribes being taken by Detectives serving under him (Given that he had just married a Scaife may be the politics it was claimed to be).

Anyway, how many people commit Suicide while Hunting with their Brother-in-law? With a full Shotgun blast to the Chest? (Most Suicides are in the month, quicker death and as a DA, Bob Duggan would have run across that fact in his carer as a DA). That is what supposedly happened to Bob Duggan. Duggan and Scaife where out hunting and Duggan either Accidentally shot himself while climbing a fence or committed suicide. Please note both Duggan and Scaife had fired their shotguns previously to the "Accident" thus there is no way to know which shotgun killed Duggan. While I have no reasons to questions the official explanation of Suicide (or the Alternative explanation that Duggan's Shotgun went off as he climbs a fence with the Trigger catching on a branch) I have my doubts (as apparently did Duggan's Wife who supposedly did not speak to her brother since the Death of her Husband till her own death in January of 2005).

20. Here's some information about Mellon-Scaife on Gore:
In the final days of the 2000 presidential campaign, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review publisher Richard Mellon Scaife, a longtime conservative activist, ordered all photographs and prominent mentions of Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore removed from the front page of the paper. As a result, the paper’s pre-election Sunday edition had a front page featuring George W. Bush in every campaign-related headline and photograph. A story about a Gore rally held in Pittsburgh, originally slated to run alongside a Bush piece on the front page, was moved to the inside of the paper. According to an account in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Tribune-Review managing editor Robert Fryer ‘tried to dissuade Scaife but was overruled.’ (10) (11)

one is a liberal politician who Scaife hated...wouldn't even let them print the man's name in the paper...but referred to him as the "democrat from Manor" the politician while still active, lost his seat because of dirty politics and Scaife's fingerprints were all over it...

another is a retired cardiologist who bought a rival paper and wanted to give Scaife some competition...but he didn't have enough cash to fight that battle....however he did buy a home in Scaife's ligonier neighborhood...I think he did it to screw with Scaife...it was a hoot...
