Tobin seeks to reverse verdict (GOP phone jamming)
James Tobin, the Republican political operative from Maine who was convicted last month of plotting to jam Democrats' phone lines, is seeking a new trial.

Tobin, once a rising star in the GOP, also wants a federal judge to overturn the jury's guilty verdict.

-snip-

Before Tobin's trial, the Republican National Committee said it would contribute more than $700,000 to his legal defense.

Spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt told The Associated Press in August that the committee was paying the bill because Tobin assured members he had not committed any crimes, and they believed him.

1. Sure they think he's innocent
because the repukes don't think any dirty trick against a Dem is a crime. But let a Dem do anything, anything at all, and they want to hang them. You know, if the RNC had donated the money for the first trial, some sheeple would have thought ok. But since the man has already been convicted, looks like they are supporting a crook. At least I hope that's how most Mainers see this--and vote accordingly.

3. Repukes would impeach a Dem president for crossing a street
when the sign said "Walk" but started flashing "Don't walk" as he was two steps from the destination curb . . .

2. Wow - if they're going to pay legal bills for Republicans,
they better do some serious fund raising. As for Tobin, IMHO he should have been found guilty on both counts. I hope his request is denied and his butt lands in jail.

4. No kidding- and does this mean that they *don't* believe DeLay?
If they're paying for Tobin because they believed him, shouldn't they also be picking up the tab for Tom? -But he's got his own defense fund, separate from the RNC.

5. Gee, a Republican ignoring the voice of the people (the jury)
And running off to what he hopes is an activist judge. What would Rick Santorum say?
