CHESAPEAKE — Army Cpl. Tony Lutz sent home a long Christmas list from Iraq this year.

He wanted boxes of candy, toys and pens for his first deployment. Not for himself. He wanted to hand gifts to Iraqi children who greeted U.S. soldiers patrolling the area near Fallujah.

Just six weeks into his deployment, Lutz was struck and killed by a sniper’s bullet this week while on a mission in Iraq, family members said Friday. Lutz, a graduate of Atlantic Shores Christian School, turned 25 this month .

He is survived by his wife, Tiffany, and two children, Tony, 3, and 5-month-old Ava.

Lutz, who was based at Fort Bragg, N.C., is the 27th local service member killed during combat in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2002.

3. This is just a damn shame...for the
military sent into a no-win hellhole, for the Iraqi people whose country has been invaded and occupied, and for families like the Lutzes whose lives have been destroyed by neo-con arrogance.

The other day at the movies before the feature started, there was an "Army National Guard" ad touting how the US army will "help pay your tuition and make you proud to serve your country." I added rather loudly, "What about the part about coming home in a box?" My fellow moviegoers remained silent. No one said anything or expressed any hostility toward me or my comment - and this in a conservative area. Maybe people are starting to wake up.

4. Start another pile Gus

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

6. When this administration took over in 2000 no one could have predicted
Edited on Sat Dec-31-05 03:53 PM by still_one
he would have gone into Iraq, and those soldiers who were already in the armed forces or enlisted to go into Afganistan I can understand, respect, and feel for their situation, but those who enlisted in this criminal administration's second term, I have very little feelings for.

Remember today it is a volunteer Army, and anyone who goes in now should have no illusions what they are getting into

It is those that were truely victims of circumstances that I feel sorry for.
