Iraq Bans Vehicles After Latest Violence
March 2, 2006

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A bomb ripped through a vegetable market in a Shiite section of Baghdad and a leading Sunni politician escaped an attack on his convoy Thursday as at least 36 people were killed in unrelenting violence pushing Iraq toward civil war.

The Iraqi government announced a one-day ban on private vehicles in Baghdad and its outskirts aimed at averting attacks on Friday, when Muslims attend the most important prayer service of the week.

The ban will take effect when the overnight curfew ends at 6 a.m. Friday and will last until 4 p.m., according to a statement issued by the prime minister's office. Police and army were instructed to seal off the capital and seize any private vehicles that defy the ban.

Ah, even if freedom is still on the march, it certainly isn't going to be driving anywhere if you live in Iraq. They've got to be kidding?

3. Imagine a vehicle ban in any major city in this country.
Extrapolate the daily death toll from the occupation/insurgency/civil war in Iraq to our country with more than 10x their population. Imagine if 15,000 people were dead last week from blue-red sectarian warfare.

What we have done to these people is beyond redemption.

6. Nothing to see here - just a creation of the media.
Actually the Iraqi government has been wanting to turn Central Baghdad in a pedestrian shopping mall for quite some time now. So this has nothing to do with the all the killing and stop concentrating on that look at all the people who haven't been killed. :sarcasm:

9. Maybe this is Bush's solution to global warming
Eventually the entire world will be too insecure to allow private vehicles, which will cut down on global warming.
