Harris Cancels Election Trips
By JEREMY WALLACE
Sarasota Herald-Tribune

PORT CHARLOTTE - Already trying to avoid the media, U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris, R-Longboat Key, is canceling campaign stops in Southwest Florida as questions swirl about her ties to a Washington defense contractor at the center of a bribery scandal.

Harris, who is running for the U.S. Senate, abruptly canceled a stop in Charlotte County on Saturday, and four other events planned for Lee and Collier counties were removed from her campaign Web site.

It's another sign that Harris' struggling campaign is in full crisis mode. Political consultants say that shying away from the public now is also bad strategy.

5. Be Nice To Harris
seriously, don't make too much fuss about her supposed or alleged bribery - at least not until after we know she has no Republican challenger. Let's just be quiet as mice in a room full of cats until its time for Senator Nelson to clean her clock.

We make too much noise about her now, she may get a challenger who would be tougher for Nelson to beat.

10. Why do you think no other GOP candidate has stepped forward,...
...and why do you think the GOP was trying to discourage her from running?

Answers: Nelson is strongly entrenched among the voters, and the GOP doesn't want to spend much money where the chances of winning are very low.

want their own (Harris and others) to fall flat on their ass
without their financial support.

20. I'm getting more deeply intrenched into the going's on here in Sarasota
and I had a meeting with a PR person who is a repub. We are looking at getting a keynote speaker for a fund raising event and Harris's name came up (I had to hold down the bile). But even the PR person said that Katherine is poison right now and to not even consider her. This from someone who is very well connected here.

It doesn't take a genius to figure that out, but it was nice to here it in a mixed group of dems and repubs, all working together to get this organization going. There was stunned silence from the repub group, and joyful silence from the dem group.

Katherine is becoming a tragic story. Back to the makeover counter at JC Penny's.

Edited on Sun Mar-05-06 06:23 PM by Ignacio Upton
Rove may still be indicted by Fitzgerald, and Frist is under investigation for insider trading similar to Martha Stewart's alleged act (I say alleged because she went to jail for obstruction of justice, not for actual insider trading.)

26. New strategy
Hey, Kat-

You got nothing to hide, why you ducking? jeb said he's backing you - Commander Kookoobananas recently let you take a ride on AF1 to show his support -

Girl, you gotta just dowse yerself in a few gallons of that refreshing mystically blessed water (aka Celestial Drops) with its
"improved fractal design"
"infinite levels of order"
"high energy and low entropy"
and
shake it off! slather on some eyeshadow! pull yourself up by your heel-straps!

Hold your chin up,
thrust that chest out,
and get back out there.

---

Ok, true, there's been a few shaky moments - people come, people go -

>>In just under three years, Harris has had four chiefs of staff, four district directors and four press secretaries. She's replaced key people on her staff every nine months, a rate of staff turnover that far exceeds most of those in Congress. On average, members of Congress hold onto their high-level staff for four to five years.

The turnover has also showed up in her campaign team. Miller is the second finance director to leave. In addition, Harris has already replaced a pollster and a campaign manager.<<

money's tight -

>>Harris has struggled to raise money and has put $250,000 of her own into her campaign. Nelson has $8 million.

"It's going to get worse," Johnson said. "Nobody is going to want to give her money."<<

scandals are catching up with you, and the polls ain't looking good, girlfriend. But we need you to stay in this 'race'. Don't wimp out now! Don't slink off and disappear. Stick around so we can see you get your ass handed to you come Election Day.

personal note: Thank you for sharing this article, wakeme2008! I know I shouldn't take delight in someone else's misfortune - But, darn it, if anyone deserves it, it's her.

27. Under the rug with her
She's being kept out of the public eye - not because of damage to her campaign; I don't think she has more than a nodding acquaintance with the idea of shame - but because of the tremendous negative associations she carries with the state and national party. Looks to me like the "out-of-sight, out-of-mind" method of dealing with corruption that is so favored by the GOP.

I don't think anyone with any kind of ability is going to run against Nelson. Right now, the last thing most people want to see on a ballot is anything named "Bush," so I doubt Jeb will run this time. Whoever does end up in the race will be someone that the party wants to be quietly rid of. Politically speaking, this race will be concrete shoes for some Florida Republican. By letting her stay in the campaign (assuming she herself doesn't come under indictment), the GOP can sink two problems with one cinder block.

Peace
PsA

30. Well, our FR friends aren't worried...
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1586929/posts

Did you know...

...that the NRSC, which a couple of weeks ago showed no mention of Katherine Harris in its Florida Senate race profile, now has her prominently featured?

Actually, I can't find anything, but maybe I missed it.

... that in late Jan 06 Gov. Jeb Bush and LtGov Toni Jennings both publicly endorsed KH's run for Senate?

... that a Rasmussen poll from last week had Ms. Harris at 40% to Nelson's 49%?

In other words, she's losing.

... that Bill Nelson has been hovering at or under 50% job approval in virtually all polls?

while Harris has an approval of 44%

... that just a few days ago Katherine Harris hitched a ride on Air Force One?

gee, there's a reason for voting for someone, right there (actually maybe we should remind voters of Bush's cozy support)

... that after having only one member of Congress (Mike Pence) donate to her campaign in 3rd quarter CY05, she had 30 members of Congress, (including Roy Blount, Trent Lott, and multiple Florida PACs) contribute in the CY05's last quarter?

And when I think of integrity, Blount and Lott are certainly the first two names that come to my mind...
