GOP Lawmakers Vow to Change Ports Process
GOP Lawmakers Vow to Change Ports Process

Sunday, March 5, 2006
(03-05) 07:39 PST WASHINGTON (AP) --

Two key GOP lawmakers pledged Sunday to overhaul the way the U.S. reviews foreign acquisitions of companies involving national security, saying that the Bush administration's handling of the Dubai ports deal was flawed.

"The problem is the 45-day investigation clearly required by law wasn't conducted, and the committee conducting the review is weighted toward the Treasury Department," said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, who chairs the Senate Homeland Security Committee.

"I think we should scrap the committee," Collins said, arguing for a new process that is focused more on homeland security concerns. "The process now is deeply flawed."

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., and chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said he wants to kill the Dubai ports deal and then require foreign governments to divest from critical U.S. installations unless they pass a review by the departments of defense and homeland security.

4. Bush has smirkingly declared he is a "War" president on international TV
.
.
.

Inform this dumm Canuk here

Did the presidents of WW1 and WW2 allow the control of ANY ports of entry to be managed by "aliens" - ??

Wouldn't letting Arab-related businesses manage your seaports after 911 be akin to letting Japanese businesses handle them after Pearl Harbor?

All them Military in Iraq could better protect the USA by being stationed in American ports, - and I bet they'd live a heck of a lot longer!

But I'm no military strategist -

whadda I know

8. Where was the US Cole docked when it was attacked?
I know it was on a Red Sea port. Whose? Anybody know? Was it Dubai? Was the UAE in charge of whatever port it was?

5. Not enough.
All I can accept is complete removal of ANY foreign held company from our ports. Actually, these ports should be run by the Feds, period.
America First.
