Military enlistment drop particularly noteworthy among blacks

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Statistics from the Defense Department show that the number of black active-duty enlisted personnel has declined 14 percent since 2000.

The drop is particularly acute among the troops most active in the Middle East. The number of black enlisted soldiers has dropped by 19 percent and the number of black enlisted Marines has fallen by 26 percent in the same period.

A poll of Cumberland County residents, commissioned last year by The Fayetteville Observer, showed that 69 percent of whites said the war in Iraq was worth the costs. Only 19 percent of blacks agreed.

17. Don't Send Anyone. End the War
Let people join the military because they want to be in the military.
Let the military be used for its rightful purpose and be treated
rightly by the government.

Let people who just want to go to college go to college.
Restore funding for scholarship programs.

I suspect that even a majority of white, male millionaires oppose the war.

A large and growing number of enlistees are Hispanic; in fact, 30% of Texans in uniform are Hispanic. Overall, Hispanics comprise 9.5% of the overall force and are over represented in the most dangerous occupations.

of speedy citizenship to all that serve. Many Hispanics see this as a way of getting the family over legally.

without mentioning that Blacks comprise 11.8 percent of the total population at best, is deceptively attempting to cast Blacks in the negative role of being unconcerned about our country. Last time I checked, 14 percent was still more than 11.8.

The message the manipulators of opinion wish to leave with the public is that recruitment failures may be attributed to unpatriotic Blacks. It is untrue, of course, but they'll try! They tried in June!

Freepers say we are fighting a "battle of civilizations" against the Islamic world, but they are not charging down to the recruiters' station to sign up?

Now they can't say that the miniorities took all the combat slots before I got there!!

I have concluded that freepers are scum cowards who love to watch war on teevee. It makes them feel "proud to be murkan" to see us destroy a third world country. But they are too cowardly to join the service themselves.

So why don't rimjob and all the other freepers join up?? :shrug:

Why should black America "fight" for this country, when all shrub and the those in power are doing is trying to set the cause of civil rights back 50 years?

If I was a black American and some little nazi like recruiter came up to me and ask me to sign up, I'd laugh in face and tell him to go fuck himself!

21. A college degree vs death or maiming is not much of a choice.
I don't blame them one bit. After serving in WWI and WWII and Korea, many black vets returned to lynchings in the south and rank discrimination all over the nation they fought so gallantly to defend. They still are the last hired and first fired and get screwed in many corporate work places across the country. They recognize this.

23. War should only be declared by the people eligible for military service.
Your "yes" vote doubles as your enlistment papers. Don't vote? You are in the second wave. People voting "no" are in the third draft.

Chickenhawk politicians beyond "military specs" would have no say. It would effectively end "Wars of choice", like the current Neocon clusterfuck, AKA The War of GOP Aggression.

Not my idea, Robert A. Heinlein's.
