Majority of Americans believe Iraq civil war is likely
Washington Post

WASHINGTON - An overwhelming majority of the public believe fighting between Sunni and Shiite Muslims in Iraq will lead to civil war and half say the United States should begin withdrawing its forces from that violence-torn country, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll released Monday.

The survey found that 80 percent believed that recent sectarian violence made civil war in Iraq likely, and more than a third said such a conflict was "very likely" to occur. Expectations for an all-out sectarian war in Iraq extended beyond party lines. More than seven in 10 Republicans and eight in 10 Democrats and political independents believe civil war was likely.

In the face of the continuing violence, fully half - 52 percent - of those surveyed said the United States should begin withdrawing forces. But only one in six favored immediate withdrawal of all troops from Iraq.

The new survey reflected a sharp decline in optimism sparked by the sectarian violence that flared in Iraq since the bombings of a revered Shiite mosque two weeks ago. Since then, deadly confrontations have occurred between Shiites and Sunni, who are a minority in Iraq but were favored under the regime of Saddam Hussein.

7. I also predicted this before we invaded Iraq...
and predicted that Afghanistan would only be the first of several countries invaded by these crazy people.

I think they're trying to provoke a third world war with nuclear weapons as a major feature (witness them selling nuclear technology to India & Iran <yes, Iran> and have allowed <through innaction> the sale of nuclear technology to North Korea). I believe they are ACTIVELY TRYING to spark the end of times, with no thought about the aftermath, because the chosen (including them, in their dreams) will have been uplifted to heaven to fight beside Jaysus!

12. They've already started the 'end times'. Consider the confluence of:

Global climate change which will overturn all the formerly stable growing areas, increase the strength of storms in both the atlantic and pacific.

Peak oil which will make EVERYTHING more expensive. And some things made from petroleum feed stocks impossible to acquire. Corporate farming depends on fertilizer made from oil. Distribution of food will be impossible without oil.

Some of the environmental satellites that allow us to keep track of storms, rainfall, etc. are nearing end of life, and their replacements have been canceled by the (and here I'm having trouble finding a word evil enough to describe this regime). So not only are we facing climate change, we won't even know about it as it changes and the bigger storms bear down on us.

Monsanto et al are doing their best to assure that they have a monopoly on all staple grains grown throughout the world so that all farmers will have to buy seed from them. And with their 'terminator gene' soon to be used no farmer will be able to illegally save seeds from one harvest for the next sowing. Not to mention the cross species travel of the anti-herbicide gene which let crops ignore herbicides while weeds were killed by them. Now there are herbicide resistant weeds, so the herbicides the factory farms depend on will be useless. Anyone who now defends bioengineered foods either can't read, or is has been bought by the oligarchy.

The only question in my mind now is whether the quick but violent 'end times' of the global thermonuclear war or the whimper of flood and starvation is the more likely.

And I'm feeling GOOD today.

14. There's always hope
If you seek love, freedom, peace, justice and progress put your faith in the realistic world of Liberty's glorious light, and cast aside the dark, bankrupt ideologies of Conservatism's hateful emblems and soiled, bloody banners!

They could never agree upon a Statue of Conservity, for it would have to be the likeness of fear's purest evil!

We keep ours buried in missile silos!

6. Divide and Rule. You'd think SOMEBODY would catch on...
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 11:57 AM by Village Idiot
Especially as this recent outbreak of mosque mass murder is UNPRECEDENTED ( not many attacks on mosques by ANYONE but US forces since the invasion of the infidel crusader dogs ) in Iraq's recent history, and the fact that Sunni and Shia seemed to actually be getting their shit together with regards to a coalition-ruled government...

Has anyone put two and two together yet with regards to the British commandos disguised as Iraqis last year who had to be broken out of an Iraqi Police station detention block? Would it surprise anyone to find that US contractors have been accused of similar deceptions?

Things that make you go "Hmmmmmm."

Edited for bad grammer / spelling

8. Says Saddam: "join the club!"
When you mix politics with conservative religious 'dogmatic socialism' you get intractable conflict. Who the hell ever heard of a legitimized political abomination like a Sunni Party or a Shiite Party? Does George Bush think there could be such a horrific thing as a Baptist Party or a Catholic Party or a Christian-Socialist Coalition Party under any legitimate form of Republican Liberty?

Liberty can neither be established nor maintained upon or around a foundation of tyranny.
"As the government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion,--as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquillity of Messelmen, --and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mohammedan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinion shall ever interrupt the harmony existing between them." - Treaty of Tripoli, 1797, Article XI, agreed during George Washington's second term and later ratified under John Adams tenure.

America's Republic of Liberty was built on the political concept of Liberal Socialism vs Liberal Privatism.

Religious Conservative Socialism was both universally protected and yet banned from politics specifically to prevent the only possible result, which invariably becomes Fascism. The old Imperial tyranny of Conservative-Socialist Anglican Fascism was (supposedly) abolished. In England, established Anglican Fascist (Tory) Conservatism was on the wane, and Noble-Cabal (Whig) Conservative-Privatism, supported by multi-sectarian fundamentalist Christian Fascist Conservative-Socialist 'coalition-ism' was correctly seen as the new enemy of of both Sectarian and Individual Freedom.

The Nazi party of Germany was later to capitalize upon this same unholy neo-conservative "Whig" marriage of authoritarian Conservative Privatism with authoritarian fundamentalist Conservative Christian-Socialism to seize power.

10. Ba'athism was the most appropriate political solution
Unfortunately there would always be a shortage of 'moderate' insurgent secessionists still surviving oppressed beneath the wreckage of Turkey and Britain's genocidal Kurdistan Disaster, AND the words "Moderate" and "Shiite" do not and cannot be fit together in any meaningful way!!
