Iran will be stopped, Cheney vows to Israeli lobbyists
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=d1d63c14cea33a61

Vice President Dick Cheney has vowed unshakeable solidarity with Israel, and condemned the new Palestinian government.

Cheney made it clear Iran would not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon, described the Iranian regime as "irresponsible," and warned the United States had "all options on the table."

"The Iranian regime needs to know that if it stays on its present course, the international community is prepared to impose meaningful consequences," he said.

Cheney was addresing 5,000 pro-Israel activists from all 50 states Monday who gathered in Washington, D.C., to attend the two-day Annual Policy Conference of AIPAC, America's pro-Israel lobbyist organization, which began Sunday. The focus of the conference was "the urgency of stopping Iran from developing nuclear weapons and isolating the Palestinian government, which is now controlled by the terrorist group Hamas." Additionally, AIPAC delegates had 400 lobbying appointments with members of the House and Senate who were in attendance.

The American vice president joined U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, in condemning the new Hamas-led Palestinian government. Bolton too echoed the vice-president's "unshakeable" commitment to the U.S.-Israel alliance

3. What the hell is Iran doing to be "stopped?" Nothing more than
Pakistan and India. Why are we so afraid of nukes in the hands of others when the US is the ONLY nation to have ever used nukes on another country? Yes, and we are a "democracy" and a "free people." You know, the ones Bush and Condi keep saying won't attack its neighbors or use nukes irresponsibly. to me, any use of nukes as a weapon is irresponsible.

8. Hmmm....
That gets me wondering. There have to be lots of muslims in this country that are naturalized citizens. When are they going to get a lobby organization going to counter the likes of AIPAC??

Remember those Cayman Halliburton subsidiaries anyone? And who's gonna sign up to fight your next war?

7. Cheney is going to get that
country bombed. Iran does have bombs to land on Israel, and everyone has wanted to bomb the bully for years. Then Israel will drop their here to fore undisclosed nukes and ... fill in the blanks another world war.

Cheney is so afraid of dying that he would kill the whole world.

9. I hate AIPAC, but they are NOT Israeli lobbyists as the headline says!
The people in AIPAC are Americans that support whatever they perceive to be Israel's interests, they are not Israelis (although some may hold dual citizenship).

I don't know why the headline was written in such a way!

10. The neocons are looking to kill
the deal: http://www.theage.com.au/news/world/russia-splits-with-west-on-iran-nprogram/2006/03/07/1141701509765.html

It doesn't look like a bad deal to me (from what I've been able to garner), although the initial moratorium has to be long enough to get a new administration in place (three years cuts it close). "Limited research activities", carefully monitored, producing small quantities of low-grade fuel, pose no great threat. But these research activities leave open the door for eventually starting up commercial-scale, low-grade fuel production, once questions of possible fuel diversion to weapons use (etc) have been resolved.

Of course, the safest path for Iran would be to suspend all enrichment related activities during the initial moratorium, during which time, as I understand it, planned nuclear-power facilities would be brought online. (Even certain war-enthusiasts cringe at the idea of striking "hot" reactors -- and the related fueling dates loom large in the scheme of things.)
