Harris says she won't drop out of Senate race

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris said she doesn't plan to drop out of the Senate race, a statement she made as rumors swirled Wednesday that she would end the campaign because of ties to a company involved in bribery scandal.

"I am out there. We are running hard. We think we have great momentum," Harris said in a telephone interview. She is the only major Republican in the race to unseat Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson.

Speculation was heavy in Washington and Florida that her association with a defense contractor, MZM Inc., that prosecutors say illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her 2004 House campaign would force her out of the race. Harris has said she didn't knowingly do anything wrong.

"We've had some negative hits but we've had an overwhelming response from grass roots and leadership around the state that are saying 'Go for it' and that's what we're doing," Harris said.

I don't even know if anyone is running against her, but I know there's a Fl primary in Sept. If her Party turns against her, won't she just lose the primary?

8. This should be an easy race for Nelson. Just tie her to the illegal
funneling of money. So, the gop wants to support people who basically steal money? Is that good for Florida?

I'd also campaign hard in the areas of Florida who had their votes not counted or those who stood in line for 10 hours to vote. they should be pretty pissed off that one of the main players in that debacle is now wanting to be a state senator.

On election day 2004, I was on the phone to Florida residents who were experiencing voter fraud. Their names were marked and the database is out there. This shouldn't be too hard.

Otherwise, she could easily become our next Senator, regardless of the exit polls. They cheat, they rig and they lie and they will do it again. As for what's good for Florida, as with the rest of the country, having our votes count in the way we intend would be an excellent start. Being able to do an accurate recount if necessary (and having something to recount) would be good too.
