at this rate! Between those we kill and them killing each other, well, just how many people are there in Iraq??? I think the only way the killing is going to stop is when there is no one left to kill.

Those remarks were made incidentally by members of the supposedly sole ready Iraqi battalion which by now is really nothing more than a Shia militia competing with the Sunni insurgents. Exact retribution would call for a lot of civilian Sunni deaths, women and children included.

Maybe all these anonymous bodies, their very existence suppressed by the Shia government, ARE unidentifiable, but the powers that be don't want anyone to see the situation clearly. Better chaos than a scorecard civil war. The barest bit of deniability remains so the civil strife can be spun into a nebulous "disorder" more nebulously reported, where the actual violence far exceeds the numbers and the potential violence is still a ticking time bomb, undefused.
