TALLAHASSEE - Michael Gulliford-Green brought a silver-framed family portrait to the state capital Thursday. The 12-year-old from Lutz wanted to show lawmakers his first day with the parents he calls Dad and Daddy.

The seventh-grader skipped classes at Carrollwood Day School for a civics lesson that textbooks don't cover: How to lobby the Legislature to repeal a state law that prohibits adoptions by gays and lesbians.

Florida, Mississippi and Utah are the only states that ban homosexual couples from adopting children. The movement to change Florida's law is an uphill battle, especially in an election year.

On May 30, 2003, he was adopted in New York by Buddy Gulliford, 44, and Jim Green, 35. The men have been together for eight years and had wanted to adopt out of the foster care system.

My brother's neighbors are a gay couple who foresaw problems in the future. So, they found a surragate mother from some southern state (Mississippi or Alabama) that favors father's rights. Considering they are both the biological father of a child, they should hopefully never have to worry about the crap going on this country about this issue.

I wonder if the movement away from science/evolution can be tied to this since homosexuality is ever more being proven by science to be not a choice. So, since science is telling us that gays are natural, then fuck science?

I am friends with one gay couple who adopted a little boy last year, and the three of them are the happiest people I know. He had been in an orphanage overseas all of his life, and is thriving and glowing with health and happiness. Only the most narrow minded, heart-hearted bigot would claim that his adoption was not in his best interests.

With all of the other problems the word faces, it's only logical that to place a child in a loving, stable home is the right, and moral thing to do. Being in the foster child system in Fla. seems to be far more dangerous than adoption by a gay couple. I'm sure there are many loving, caring foster parents, and I applaud their contributions, but adoption...knowing that the child is part of a family, at last and forever, has got to be the best choice of all.

If people could only realize how bad this child's life was before, and how wonderful it is now, how could they doubt that giving gay couples the same human rights as others? Not allowing gay couples to adopt is NOT in the best interests of children.

finally got permanent guardianship of two blond < 8 GIRLS. The fundies were going crazy over this but the judge listened to the foster care worker and shrinks and gave them permanent status.

Imagine, somone actually ruling in favor of what's best for the kids, instead of giving in to bigoted insanity.

I don't think that if there is a God she would be unhappy with people just loving kids and giving them a good home.

Sadly I don't think they can affect the change this year but maybe next year when there isn't an election.
