Condi not interested in being NFL commish
too bad for us....

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/11931783/

WASHINGTON - Condoleezza Rice, a bona fide football fan, is not applying for the newly opened post of NFL commissioner — not now, anyhow, her spokesman said carefully on Monday.

“She thinks football is the greatest sport on earth, but even if she were approached for the job — which she has not been — she would have to decline,” Sean McCormack said.

“She still has many things she wants to accomplish as secretary of state,” he said.

Rice, who is avid particularly in support of the Cleveland Browns, is enjoying being secretary of state “at the moment,” McCormack said.

The wiggle-room in his response after NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced he would retire resonated off frequent only half-joking statements by Rice that as a lifelong football fan she aspires to run the league one day.

3. Super Bowl XLI prediction: Washington 75, New Orleans 0.
And you might ask, "how do two NFC teams wind up in the Super Bowl?" Because the real score is 6-3 in the Supreme Court.

6. What a sad commentary on the state of the media
joking comments as news - where suddenly an item equates Sec of State, as big cheese for a pro sport. Doesn't this even strike other peole as off - that it is even covered as a news item? Heck I heard about it on the commute home on NPR. So fluffy and ridiculous, yet it is picked up and covered on "serious" news programs. How very sad.

8. She's not qualified
Has she ever been an athletic director or sports executive? Being a provost is not the same thing.

And the powers that be in the NFl, especially the owners, will not take orders from a woman.

16. I love this great sport.....
Please keep her away. She'd almost certainly have a football stoppage/players strike within the first three years, that of course, "no one could have predicted".

17. Rice, eminently unqualified for just about everything
has always had conservative nimrods fall over themselves to offer her the very highest positions imaginable: a board of director seat at Chevron, the NSA position, the Secretary of State job, and now, the NFL commissionership.

The woman is only qualified to teach cold war history in college, but she's the token black female conservative stooge the GOP prizes.

18. Just like Laura is the "Fitness First Lady".
I saw this on TV the other day and nearly puked.

Video of Bush and Condi lifting weights but none of Laura although the storyline was that lifting weights lead to her weight loss.

19. so she was just making it up, when she told Bush ...
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 01:49 PM by Lisa
... during their chats in the weight room at the Crawford house, about wanting to be in charge of the NFL (while he was waxing eloquent about being baseball commissioner)?

I suppose Bush never stopped to think that, anytime there's a power relationship, one can never be entirely sure that the "buddy talks" are going to be entirely candid. I guess currying favor is seen even at the highest levels, eh Bushie?

20. Don't think she was making it up.
Just that she's not qualified, same as Laura isn't qualified to be the "First Lady of Fitness".
