TUPELO - Republicans, Democrats and Green Party members alike spoke out against the war in Iraq during a 45-minute peace rally Sunday afternoon in Tupelo.

<snip>

Steven Haskins, a self-described Christian, conservative Republican from Endville, said he never supported the Iraq invasion and now decided to publicly protest the war. "I'm a veteran from the Vietnam era, and I thought maybe we'd learned our lesson from that war," he said. "But I guess not."

Another Republican, retired school teacher Nelson Fitts, said he supported the hunt for Osama bin Laden that led America into Afghanistan, but he never understood why the Bush administration went into Iraq. Fitts, from Pontotoc County, has a 20-year-old son and a 30-year-old nephew in Iraq and wants both to return home safely.

4. I didn't know much about Elvis until I read Sarah Shankman's
mystery The King is Dead: The King is Dead.

The book includes a BarBQ cook-off at Tupelo and an Elvis impersonator contest there. In the town (in the book) is a McDonald's whose walls are covered with Elvis memorabilia. There's all sorts of info about Elvis in the book, including the house and his twin.

Shankman also wrote a book laid in NOLA Now Let's Talk of Graves and a book about the Miss America contest She Walks in Beauty.
