Bush says there's no need to shake up his staff

WHITE HOUSE President Bush says he's surrounded by "good, hardworking, decent people" and feels no need to make changes.

Some Republican lawmakers have been pushing for Bush to shake up his team. Critics say his administration has mishandled issues recently and needs fresh blood.

But in his news conference today, Bush declared, "I'm satisfied with the people I surrounded myself with."

And asked about critics who say Donald Rumsfeld should lose his job over Iraq, Bush said the defense secretary shouldn't resign. Bush says Rumsfeld has "done a fine job of not only conducting two battles, Afghanistan and Iraq, but also transforming our military."

19. Exactly. As much as I abhor Reagan's Administration, at least
.

Exactly. As much as I abhor Reagan's Administration, his/its politics, and Ronald Reagan's legacy, at least Reagan saw the hand-writing on the wall as to his low poll numbers, as a result he fired and regrouped his puppeteers. But not George Walker Bush.

Oh, hell, no, not George Walker Bush!

Talk about messianic complex! Yup, George Walker Bush and his messianic complex: I am God. God talks through me. God can do no wrong! Scary stuff that George Walker Bush.

George Walker Bush, the Christian

The Divine, George Walker Bush

And, now George Walker Bush talks about comparing himself to the Harry S Truman Administration? ROFLMAO! Oh, sure. Sure.

"I believe that God wants me to be
president."
— Richard Land, a Director
of the conservative evangelical Southern
Baptist Convention, quoting GWBush on
"the day (GWBush) was inaugurated for his
second term as governor (of TX) in 1999."

"I could not be governor (of Texas) if I did not
believe in a divine plan that supersedes all human
plans."
- George Walker Bush

"I, George W. Bush, Governor of Texas, do
hereby proclaim June 10, 2000, Jesus Day in
Texas and urge ... all Texans to answer the
call to serve those in need. By volunteering
their time, energy or resources to helping others,
adults and youngsters follow Christ's message
of love and service in thought and deed."
— GWBush, as Governor of TX, officially
proclaiming June 10, 2000, as
"JESUS DAY in TEXAS."

"And the religious people (GWBush) was connected
with in Texas aren't anything like the mainstream
— even the mainstream in Texas."
— Molly Ivins, political pundit, on GWBush as Governor of Texas.

"After all, religion has been around a lot longer
than Darwinism."
— GWBush, reported in George Magazine, September, 2000

"Government cannot make people love one
another ... (; instead,) love comes from a
higher calling, a higher authority; the great
strength of America lies in the hearts and
souls of citizens who've heard that call, not
in the halls of government."
— GWBush, campaigning for president in the
2000 election explaining his "faith-based initiatives"
vs. government run programs w/o regard for the
Separation of Church and State.

"Together, we have a charge to keep,"
— GWBush authored in his presidential campaign
book which was not too subtly entitled "A Charge
to Keep" (a quote from an Evangelical hymn
"associated with a Bible verse, 1 Corinthians
4:2: 'Now it is required that those who have been
given a trust must prove faithful.')," page 45.

"(G)overnment should welcome (and grant federal
monies to) the active involvement of people who
are following a religious imperative to love their
neighbors through after-school programs, child
care, drug treatment, maternity group homes, and
a range of other services. Supporting these men
and women is the next bold step of welfare reform."
— GWBush's presidential campaign book,
co-authored by Karen Hughes, entitled, “A Charge
to Keep”, p. 232.

"I called on Congress to join me in passing laws that
would allow the — open up the federal treasury to
faith-based programs, and (Congress) balked," Bush
said. "So I signed an executive order instructing all
federal agencies not to discriminate against religious
groups."
— GWBush, January 15, 2004, explaining to a black
New Orleans church audience why he signed
the "faith-based programs" bribery contained in
several Executive Orders over-riding congress' refusal
to pass federal laws.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/01/15/elec04.prez.bush.thursday/

"Faith-based programs are only effective because they
do practice faith. It’s important for our government to
understand that. (F)aith-based programs only conform
to one set of rules, and it’s bigger than government rules.
The inspiration is not from (government) bureaucracy,
and that’s what’s important for government policymakers
to understand."
— GWBush on the campaign trail, 2004, putting a new twist
on the 1st amendment's Separation of Church and State,
and the Establishment Clause.
http://www.bjcpa.org/Pages/Views/2004/02.04hollman.html

"I believe that it points up the fact that we
need common sense judges who understand
that our rights were derived from God. Those
are the kind of judges I intend to put on the bench."
— GWBush, June 27, 2002, explaining his litmus
test for federal judicial nominees upon hearing that
"under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance (which
was heavily lobbied by the Roman Catholic Knights
of Columbus and inserted by a zealous anti-communist
U.S. congress in the 1950s) was being challenged in
the federal courts as unconstitutional by an Atheist.
http://www.americanhumanist.org/press/litmustest.html

"(Hanging in my office is) a beautiful oil painting
by W.H.D. Koerner entitled A Charge to Keep
The painting, inspired by the hymn, (pictures) a
horseman determinedly charging up what appears
to be a steep & rough trail. This is us. (The painting
and) hymn have been an inspiration for me and for
members of my staff. 'A Charge to Keep calls us
to our highest and best. It speaks of purpose and
direction. In many hymnals, it is associated with a
Bible verse, 1 Corinthians 4:2: 'Now it is required
that those who have been given a trust must prove
faithful.' "
— GWBush's presidential campaign book,
co-authored by Karen Hughes, entitled, “A Charge
to Keep”, p. 45.

"This crusade ... is going to take a while."
— GWBush, speaking 5 days after 9-11
about retaliatory issues, Washington, DC,
September 16, 2001

"I think President Bush is God's man at
this hour, and I say this with a great sense
of humility,"
— Timothy Goeglein of the
White House Office of Public Liaison told
World magazine, a Christian weekly.

http://www.worldmag.com/world/issue/10-06-01/opening_5.asp

"There is a human condition that we must worry
about in times of war. There is a value system
that cannot be compromised — God-given values.
These aren't United States-created values."
— GWBush, as quoted by Bob Woodward,
in his book "Bush at War. "

"God loves you, and I love you. And you
can count on both of us as a powerful
message that people who wonder about
their future can hear."
— GWBush, Los Angeles, Calif., March 3, 2004

"I trust God speaks through me. Without
that, I couldn’t do my job."
-- GWBush, quoted in the Lancaster New Era, July
16, 2004, during a private meeting with an Amish group.
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2004/07/16/quote_of_the_day.html

"I'm the commander, I do not need to
explain why I say things. That's the
interesting thing about being the President.
Maybe somebody needs to explain to me
why they say something, but I don't feel like
I owe anybody an explanation ..."
— GWBush, asserting what seems to be
a messianic complex.
http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?itemid=16802

"Where there is tyranny, oppression and
gathering danger to mankind, America
works and sacrifices for peace and freedom.
The liberty we prize is not America's gift to
the world, it is the Almighty God's gift to all
humanity."
-- GWBush, as photographs and videos of
U.S. military, U.S. intelligence, and
U.S. private contractors abuse of Iraqi
prisoners are filling the headlines around the
world, May 14, 2004 in a speech before an
evangelical Lutheran college commencement
in Wisconsin, a state that GWBush lost by
by 5,709 votes of nearly 2.5 million cast in the
last presidential election.

26. F*king Lunatic! Reading those quotes just pisses me off! Who the
f*ck does he think he is anyway? He has no right to do half of what he's done, no make that all of what he's done! And Jesus Day in Texas? That went right by me, I've never heard of that until now and no one I know here has ever said anything about it either. ** can take his messianic complex and shove it, especially since I am convinced it's as phony as his Texas accent. Just his usual pandering for votes and power. :grr: "Born Again" my ass! :eyes:

3. This is all part of that "dry-drunk" syndrome.
What is the dry drunk syndrome? "Dry drunk" traits consist of:

# Exaggerated self-importance and pomposity
# Grandiose behavior
# A rigid, judgmental outlook
# Impatience
# Childish behavior
# Irresponsible behavior
# Irrational rationalization
# Projection
# Overreaction

http://www.bodydharma.org/choices/Bush/vanwormer.html

You can find information about this syndrome anywhere on the internet. It is the rigid thinking aspect that will not allow him to change his staff.

9. Five of these symptoms mean you have a narcissistic personality disorder
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 12:05 PM by rocknation
I think Bush has ALL NINE!

1. has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

2. is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love

3. believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)

4. requires excessive admiration

5. has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations

6. is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends

7. lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others

8. is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her

9. shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

14. Why would he?
The gang behind the puppet holds the country, 98% of the democrats and most of the world by the balls. Changing is acknowledging need for correction, and therefore implying that mistakes have been made. Staying the course, even if it is collision course, implies the contrary. The deed is done: the ME is destabilized at least for a generation, all progressive aspects of the constitution are de facto overturned, huge profits are being made, the economy is back to the war-based dynamic, workers are screwed and suck it up, obscurantism is steadily spreading, media are 98% controlled, judicial branch is in on it. Why would you want to change anything?

6. Bush should be surrounded by "Good, hardworking, decent people"
But they do all they can to distance him from those type of people. When he visits New Orleans or the Mississippi Gulf Coast, they hide him away amongst supporters they carefully select for the occassion. All of his public appearances are carefully orchestrated to keep him away from good, hardworking, decent people. He certainly doesn't encounter them at his fundraisers, or in his office, or on his plane. A few may be scattered throughout his press conferences, but not enough to surround him.

He is surrounded by good, hardworking, decent Americans. They are all around him, just outside the fences erected to keep him isolated. Many of those supporters have begun carrying figurative pitchforks, and no one wants Bush to suddenly get their points.

Are they afraid that no one there has the sense to rein Bush in? If I recall properly, Haig and maybe Kissinger quietly passed the word that no one should launch nuclear weapons on Nixon's word alone. Who is there in this White House to do the same?

"not stirred" sorry couldn't resist...

but seriously, I think they are shaking enough. Rove is shaking because he's on the Plame list, Cheney may be shaking because he's on the list too and then there's Halliburton lurking in the background and who know what dirt will pop up on that next. Libby, shaken but not forgotten, is looking at possible jail time if it ever gets to trial.

Rumsfeld and Rice are shaking because Iraq is falling into a civil war. Norton was so shaken she resigned

meanwhile the rest of the bushies are shaking because they don't know who will draw the short straw and be forced to tell smirk-boy something he doesn't want to hear

28. Rope-A-Dope Alert!!
Bush will spend the next week or so denying there's any need to shake up his staff, then fire a handful of junior cabinet members to show that he's really taking charge.

Don't let him do this. It will take the focus off his god-awful policies and make it look as though his entire disastrous administration was simply a human resources issues.

If you have the time (and even if you don't), write to your local newspaper and point out that staffing problems aren't what ails this administration. As Michael Dukakis said of the Reagan Administration, a fish rots from the head down.
