Russia digs in against UN Council action on Iran

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Russia's foreign minister on Wednesday firmly rejected a draft U.N. Security Council statement aimed at pressuring Iran to stop enriching uranium, despite a new offer of amendments by Western powers.

The five powers' U.N. ambassadors met again on Wednesday but failed to reach agreement on a draft council statement proposed by France and Britain, participants said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Beijing, "The draft includes points that effectively lay the groundwork for sanctions against Iran."

"We will hardly be able to support this version of the draft," he added, according to Moscow's Interfax news agency.

Lavrov said the draft text was "effectively aimed at removing the Iranian nuclear issue from the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) agenda and referring it to the U.N. Security Council. It is wrong."

3. It will be the next guy's or girl's problem, not his.
and Coondi the great Russian PhD analyst, will slowly fade out of the picture because it will be someone else's problem. They are working toward making it someone else's problem and divesting themselves from all responsibility.

and they will all live happily forever after their term (their fascist reign) making huge amounts of money, if they have not already.

Who will love Condi? She is getting up there in years and has no lover at all. Uh huh--an old maid,a spinster, this Condi, bereft of, and deprived of love from a man.

Is that normal behavior?

6. cannot see how the U.S. would get any support in this
I cannot see how the United States (especially the Bush administration) plan on getting any foreign support for anything that looks anything like Iraq. Nice to see Russia is already taking a hard stand on this issue.

The thing I am worried about is that the US already disregarded the U.N. once, could it happen again?

This all seems oddly familiar to the situation with North Korea a couple of years ago. Since then, no real progress there. (Correct me if any of this is wrong)
