Baghdad governor says suspends cooperation with US(military)
BAGHDAD, March 27 (Reuters) - Baghdad provincial governor Hussein al-Tahan said on Monday he would suspend all cooperation with U.S. forces until an independent investigation is launched into the killing of 20 Shi'ites in a mosque.

"Today we decided to stop all political and service cooperation with the U.S. forces until a legal committee is formed to investigate this incident," he told reporters, adding that the inquiry panel should include the U.S. embassy and the Iraqi defence ministry but not the U.S. military.

17. Oh well then - maybe the mosque only received MINOR damage. There
must be SOME good news that could be reported. Besides, how many mosques in the city were not attacked at all? See how easy this is if one looks on the bright side?

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life (from Monty Python)

From: A Faire To Remember
words and music by Eric Idle

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

5. wow. The Interior Minister said it "may" have been a suicide bomber
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L27647399.htm
An Interior Ministry source said the explosion targeted Iraqi army recruits and may have been carried out by a suicide bomber strapped with explosives but it was not immediately possible to verify this. No further details were available.

But I believe the Interior ministry is the most corrupt arm of the government, put in place and supported by BushCo.

Yikes.

16. Now it'll really get ugly
The best thing we can do for our country is impeach Bush, try all in his administration for War Crimes (including their drivers), withdrawal our troops and beg the United Nations to clean up our mess, and apologize to Muslims for blaming their religion heir religion for our attack on Iraq when it was actually because Saddam said he would only accept Euros for oil.

24. Iraq minister says US, Iraqi troops killed 37 civilians
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's security minister, a Shi'ite political ally of Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, accused U.S. and Iraqi troops on Monday of killing 37 unarmed people in an attack on a mosque complex a day earlier.

"At evening prayers, American soldiers accompanied by Iraqi troops raided the Mustafa mosque and killed 37 people," Abd al-Karim al-Enzi, minister of state for national security, said.

"They were all unarmed. Nobody fired a single shot at them (the troops). They went in, tied up the people and shot them all. They did not leave any wounded behind," he told Reuters.

Shi'ite politicians had earlier said 20 people were killed at the mosque. The U.S. military's account of Sunday evening's incident said Iraqi special forces with U.S. advisers killed 16 "insurgents", arrested 15 people and freed an Iraqi hostage. The military denied entering any mosque.

26. Interesting MSM take...
I notice that when US troops are involved with the killings, the term 'sectarian' disappears. The mosque in this Roto-Reuter story is not identified as Shia--you have to assume that from the story's quoted critics.

Clearly the 'catholic'/'protestant' tags can't work in this context, so they just dispense with the metaphor until the next story.

Hey, finally the media gets on the good newz bandwagon.

27. BBC: Political storm over Iraq deaths
Political storm over Iraq deaths

The US military in Iraq is facing growing political pressure over a raid on a Baghdad mosque complex that left about 20 people dead on Sunday evening.

US officials said 16 insurgents had been killed and 18 captured, along with a significant weapons cache.

However, members of Iraq's ruling Shia Islamist bloc say many of the dead were civilians taking part in prayers.

<snip>

News footage taken after the attack seemed to belie US assertions that troops had not entered or damaged any sacred building during the raid.

The room where the killing occurred appeared to be a prayer hall. The floors are carpeted and the walls covered with religious posters.

The tape showed a tangle of male bodies and spent 5.56mm bullet casings on the blood-smeared floor - the kind of ammunition used by the US military.
