Democratic Senators Vow FDA Nominee Block
WASHINGTON - Two Democratic senators said Tuesday they will not stop blocking President Bush's nominee to lead the Food and Drug Administration until the agency decides whether the emergency contraceptive Plan B can go on sale without a prescription.

Sens. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y, told reporters that they met Tuesday with Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach but were unable to get a Plan B update.

"He gave us no status and he couldn't give us any kind of timeline," Murray said.

The FDA has held off on a decision on Plan B since Barr Laboratories Inc. first applied to sell the pill without a prescription in 2003.

7. I read something interesting about the HPV vaccine.

It would also prevent head and neck cancers in men and women....a form of cancer on the increase whose treatment is very disfiguring. How can these people block something that would prevent someone from having half his face removed?

8. They don't give a rat's a - - about somebody losing their face. All they
care is that loose women be punished with a slow painful death for their "sins".

9. I do NOT know if they would prevent its use in head and neck cancer
but I do not they DO NOT WANT adolescent girls to have it.

This can prevent cervical cancer, and because of their warped sense of morality, they are trying to prevent its use

Where are the Democrats on this?

11. one person who could really help is Lance Armstrong...
he just brought out a new book, "LiveStrong", in which cancer survivors detail their illnesses and treatments. It was in one of these chapters that the vaccine was discussed by a young man who has facial cancer. Lance is listened to, even after his disastrous bike ride with dipshit....Lance, where are you on the subject.? Democrats, where are you?

4. looks to me like the Repugs do not want a fight on this?
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee has not set a date for hearings on von Eschenbach, said Craig Orfield, a spokesman for the chairman, Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo. Enzi has urged the White House to resolve the Plan B issue, Orfield said.

10. Unfortunately, this is just more politics
* will be happy to have him as Acting Commissioner for the rest of his term. That's what will happen if he is not voted on.
