Hundreds of thousands of French poured into the streets Tuesday, in the latest, and largest, demonstration against an unpopular new employment law.

The protests included a national strike that disrupted transportation and other services around the country.

Chanting slogans and waving banners against the new hiring law, tens of thousands of demonstrators marched through the Paris streets Tuesday, ending up at the Place de la Republic in the northern part of the city. Similar marches were held in towns and cities across France. Striking workers disrupted public transportation, rail and airline services around the country. Teachers, postal workers and private sector employees also joined the walkout.

4. You should give the French credit for this
They at least know how to show their feelings when they disagree with their government.

5. Maybe we could learn something from les Francais.
Of course a lot of sheeple would have to pull themselves away from 'American Idol' and NASCAR long enough to give a damn that our country is turning into a fascist state.

8. Best for whom? That is the question.
But seriously, why is there only one "best" economic system? Let the peoples of the world experiment and choose as they like.

9. I never said there was one "best" system, however...
I do think its wrong for the government to make it hard for employers to hire or fire people.

Some people just arent good at some jobs, and in those cases why should the employer be forced to keep a bad employee on.

In situations where a government makes it hard for someone to be fired I believe that is infringing on the property rights of the employer. A person's money is their property and if the government is forcing someone to pay money to employ someone they dont want that is wrong.

That being said I do agree that experimentation is good. We should never force everyone to be the same. Diversity is a good thing in that different systems are tried by different people and we can see the results and decide for ourselves.

10. Thank you for expressing yourself clearly and honestly.
I disagree, but it's a long discussion, and not likely a fruitful one, so let's skip it.
