Cuomo has 20-point lead in (NY) AG race: poll
Edited on Thu Mar-30-06 04:05 PM by brooklynite
For those of you wondering how Jeanine's been doing lately:

Former Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo has a 20-point lead over former Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro in the race for state AG.

Mr. Cuomo is also the frontrunner among New York state Democrats making a pitch for the primary, leading former New York City Public Advocate Mark Green by a margin of 37% to 25%, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday.

In hypothetical matchups, the poll showed Mr. Cuomo beating Ms. Pirro by 51% to 31% and Mr. Green leading the Westchester County AG by 47% to 31%.

“Among Democrats, it’s still a two-person race for attorney general,” said Maurice Carroll, director of Quinnipiac’s polling institute, in a statement. “Even though New York has a tradition of splitting the top state jobs between the parties, in this early matchup, Ms. Pirro gets only the generic Republican one-third against Mr. Cuomo or Mr. Green.”

1. Why is she even trying?
She is one of the biggest jokes I've ever seen when it comes to running a campaign.

9. She's actually more adroit in legal areas
She ran for the Senate out of ego and encouragement from close supporters, but fell flat not just because of her gaffe, but because she has no experience in general public policy. Despite her blatant corruption involving her and her husband (as a Westchester resident, I'm eager to vote against her) she did manage to get elected three times for District Attorney, even in 2001 when her husband's jail time dominated the election. While she fumbled in Senate race, she withdrew early enough so that many people, outside of Westchester and those politically informed, will not remember her. Unfortunately, she could give Cuomo a run for his money, and Green too. They're both weak politicians, and Cuomo has his own skeletons. Personally, I also want to see an Upstater on the Democratic ticket, and I prefer Denise O'Donnell. Sean Maloney is also a strong progressive who's netroots savy (he has ads on DU and Daily Kos.)

4. I pray Green doesn't get the nomination
he has a way of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

12. The guy lost to Al fucking D'amato and Bloomberg!
Although both he and Ferrer are responsible for the 2001 debacle (even without 9/11 we could have won.) I'm sick of Mark Green.

5. these are awful choices...any way you look at it
mr. cuomo is an unacceptable candidate as far as i'm concerned. if it's between cuomo and pirro, i'd vote for pirro.

woe to NY if andy-poo wins. our only hope would be if spitzer smacked him dowm and kept him on a short lease.

17. andrew cuomo
is a vindictive, unprincipled, not too bright POS who has spent his life riding on his father's coattails.

i think we're familiar with that syndrome on the federal level.....don't want it for NY.

11. Don't ever mention supporting Pirro
he's a grandstanding, mafia-linked, New York version of Katherine Harris.

23. What county do you live in?
Honestly, if it came down to the two of them, I would only vote for Cuomo if he were in a dead heat. Otherwise I will not vote for AG, unless if it is for O'Donnell, Maloney, Brodsky, or even Green.

8. I don't like Andy Cuomo or Mark Green.
I'm surprised Cuomo has such a big lead. It might be name recognition. Sean Maloney isn't even on the map.

14. He looks interesting

But I'd prefer to have at least one Upstater on the ticket. Spitzer is from NYC (he lives on the Upper East Side), Suozzi is from Nassau, and Spitzer's running mate, David Patterson is from Harlem. If the GOP nominates Faso, then they will have an Upstate presence (although the Upper Hudson Valley is nothing like Syracuse of Buffalo.) Because of this, I like Denise O'Donnell. She also has experience in the Clinton Justice Deparment.

Question though. Do you think an openly gay man can get elected statewide in NYS? I know we're pretty liberal, but we're not THE most liberal of the blue states. I'm also proud of him for representing Matthew Shepard's family.

I am surprised that Cuomo is ahead considering he bailed out in 2002. I think Maloney can win if half the registered Democrats in the state come out.
