Hostage interviewed by captors (says insurgents will emerge victorious)
FREED US hostage Jill Carroll praised Iraq's insurgents and predicted their victory in an interview conducted by her captors before they released her today, according to a video posted on the internet. The footage, which could not be independently verified, appeared to have been filmed shortly before the freelance journalist was released today nearly three months after being kidnapped in Baghdad.

"I think the mujahideen (Islamic holy warriors) are very smart and even with all the technology and all the people that the American army has here, they still are better at knowing how to live and work here, more clever," she said. "It makes very clear that the mujahideen are the ones that will win in the end," said Ms Carroll.

"What will you tell the American people about the mujahideen when you go back to America?" asked the man. "There are a lot of lies that come out of the American government calling the mujahideen terrorists, I think it is important that the American people hear from me that the mujahideen are only trying to defend their country," she said.

"I feel guilty ... It shows the difference between the mujahideen and the Americans, it shows the mujahedeen are good people fighting an honourable fight while the Americans are here as an occupying force treating the people in a very bad way," she said.

1. It would be easier to believe an
interview that was not conducted on a person that was also being held against her will.

7. and the kidnappers smaked the CIA with a closing statement.

.....At the end of the tape, her interrogator read out a statement in Arabic.

"The mujahideen in the land of the two rivers announce the liberation of the journalist Jill Carroll ... after the US forces and the CIA failed to find her making their ineptitude obvious to the whole world," he said.

"We liberate this journalist today after the American government met some of our demands by releasing some of our women prisoners."

4. This will expand the Stockholm Syndrome talk.
I think Atrios referred to this as a minute of hate.

8. Of COURSE the "insurgents" will win
.
.
.

Whatever their motives, the "insurgents" are fighting for their own country, one that does not owe Americans squat.

58,000 lost in Vietnam, and for what??

and Vietnam is still suffering from the pollutants the USA left behind

and now Iraq and Afghanistan have to live through millenniums of poisons left behind with the USA's Depleted Uranium munitions

From poisoning Native American's blankets, to poisoning the soil, air and water of a whole nation or two

The USA has "progressed" in only one way IMO

How to kill and maim more people . . .

(sigh)

11. Jeffrey Amherst, British.
Edited on Thu Mar-30-06 11:21 PM by NYC
Jeffrey Amherst was a prime contributor to the British victory over the French in Canada in the French and Indian War...

Amherst was born at Riverhead, Kent, England...

Amherst, newly promoted to major-general, captured the key French bastion on Cape Breton Island on July 27, 1758. This victory opened the St. Lawrence River to future British incursions, and Amherst was named commander-in-chief in North America.

...He completed his triumph with the capture of Montreal in September 1760.

As a reward for his success, Amherst was appointed governor-general of British North America, a position he held until 1763...

...allegations have persisted that Amherst was responsible for conducting an early form of germ warfare against warring Native Americans, a group he and others of his era held in extremely low regard. A letter still exists in which Amherst raises the possibility of conveying smallpox-infected blankets into Indian hands. Historians’ views differ on whether or not the plan was actually executed, but the tribes in western Pennsylvania were struck by a devastating outbreak of the disease at this time.

12. The article's a hit piece, I think ...
And will surely be used to attack her, Swift-boat style. She's under duress and the article, at least to me, presents her words at face value; who knows how much she believes of what she said in here ... though it's true once freed she spoke on TV about her fair treatment. And from the reports of hers I've read, it's pretty clear to me she has sympathy with what the Iraqi people have endured -- no doubt of that in my mind.

I'm looking forward to hearing more from her and am ecstatic she was released.
