Nevada will receive $20.5 million in federal anti-terrorism grants this year, including nearly $8 million for the Las Vegas area, funding that was jeopardized in January when the city was dropped from a list of cities deemed at high risk of an attack.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday announced that $1.7 billion will be distributed to help communities prevent and respond to terrorist attacks or other disasters.

Cities including New York and Washington also saw massive funding cuts, as did San Diego and Phoenix, which were dropped from the list of at-risk cities.
Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Las Vegas and Nevada did well compared to other cities and states. But Reid criticized the Bush administration for slashing homeland security funding.
"They talk a good game, but they won't provide the necessary funding to get the job done," Reid said in a statement.
