Baghdad pet market bombed; 5 dead
Question: Where was Frist? Could he have been on one of those "surprise visits"?

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Two bombs struck in quick succession at a pet market Friday in Baghdad, killing at least five people and wounding 57, while the leader of al-Qaida urged Sunnis to confront Shiites and ignore calls for national reconciliation.

The explosives were left in bags at the entrance and the center of the al-Ghazil market, where Iraqis can go every Friday to buy dogs, birds, snakes and other animals, Lt. Ahmed Muhammad Ali said.

About 10 minutes later, an explosion near a Shiite mosque in the eastern Baghdad neighborhood of Jadida killed two civilians and injured five, Lt. Ali Abbas said.

In the southern city of Basra, Sheik Ismat Youniss was gunned down as he was walking to his Shiite mosque for Friday prayers, Capt. Mushtaq Kadhim said.

Mission accomplished! :sarcasm:

Side note: The name "tabby" for a striped cat comes from the Baghdad neighborhood of at-Tabiya, in which a striped cloth was once made.

5. It's June. They got a LOT of kittens, I am guessing.
Makes me want to go over there and personally throttle SOMEBODY.

Not sure exactly who, but SOMEBODY.

4. A tradition in Islam....

And this may be the case in Iraq.

Cats are highly respected in Islam and cannot be sold, only given away.

Side note: The Prophet(Pbuh) and at least one of his companions (mAbpwh) had Cats.

Peace

6. Some say Mohammad had five white Turkish Angoras
others say he only had one white odd eyed cat. At any rate, the breed is considered a National Treasure in Turkey and is revered throughout much of the Middle East. I have one of these cats (middle photo on my sig), but they're very hard to come by outside of Turkey anymore-because, as you note, they are highly respected. The government of Turkey no longer allows them to be exported out of the country (they aren't that much to look at, but their personalities are very unusual).
