US team arrives at high-security World Cup base
HAMBURG, Germany (AFP) - The US team arrived in Germany yesterday to take up their heavily guarded World Cup headquarters just one week before the tournament begins.

The US delegation, led by coach Bruce Arena and captain Claudio Reyna, arrived at the Fuehlsbuttel airport after a seven-hour flight from Newark.

They were serenaded by a choir singing "We are the Champions" before boarding a bus to take them to the Park Hyatt hotel in the centre of the city.

Unlike many of the 32 nations, who are based in hotels tucked deep in the countryside, the United States have opted for a city centre location just as they did at the 2002 World Cup where they were based in the South Korean capital Seoul. Security will be tight due to the possibility of attacks from Islamic extremists.

4. A shame
Shame that this administration has so sullied this nation's image around the world that our team has to pretty much slink into Germany under so much security.

5. Isn't it?
As I was reading the article, I thought "That's the price you pay for being the World's Heavyweight Champion Hegemon".

I looked closely at the athletes. They look somber, quiet. They are probably praying that everything goes well for them.

And if they win, what then? Won't they just be subject to more derision and jeers, maybe threats? You really have to wonder.

Bush had a 'Press Conference' with his pet dog Tony Blair. About abu Ghraib, Bush said, "We've been paying for that for a long time". I'm assuming here Bush meant by worldwide hatred, creating new terrorists, failed agreements with other countries, botched lucrative deals, failed negotiations.

THAT's the price Bush must be talking about. I wonder if he even realizes HOW MUCH we're paying.
