CBS: Another Terrorist Attack Coming Soon? Officials Believe Recent Incide
Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 06:03 PM by Rose Siding
U.S. Officials Believe Recent Incidents Point To An Imminent Threat

CBS) U.S. officials believe the Canadian arrests and three recent domestic incidents in the United States are evidence the U.S. will soon be hit again by a terrorist attack. Privately, they say, they'd be surprised if it didn't come by the end of the year, reports CBS News national security correspondent David Martin.
.....
Analysts now conclude similarities between all the cases were dramatic: all were self-financed, self-motivated, and in each case the men were seeking out others to join their cell.

In short, Osama bin Laden, didn't pay for these plots, recruit for them or even know of them. They were all totally homegrown — even amateurish. But if four, including the one in Canada, have been uncovered in just 11 months, officials fear there are inevitably other plots that have not been and are maturing even now.

The next attack here, officials predict, will bear no resemblance to Sept. 11. The casualty toll will not be that high, the target probably not that big. We may not even recognize it for what it is at first, they say. But it's coming — of that they seem certain.

3. Assuming this is a political ploy
We need to keep Bush and the Republicans in office because we haven't been attacked since 9/11, and that is proof of their success...

BUT

We need to keep them in power if we get attacked again because they are the best party to handle it?

Huh?

"Let's see, terra attack before election day, a new bin Laden tape and video of dancing gay Al-Qaeda fighters in full drag near the US-Mexico border, a Pat Robertson prophecy, yada, yada, yada."

But isn't that simply evidence of all the things going wrong right now? How does all that bad news translate into success for the party that has overseen it?

But remember Sept. 11?

Bush et al did absolutely nothing while the country was under attack; we lost 3,000 citizens due to the administration's incompetence -- and his approval rating skyrocketed.

They'd call the Republicans on this.
They would make amotion in the middle of this b.s. gay marriage debate to bring up ways to make our country safer. Then, they should use the radio address response to talk about how they want to make America safer, but not in a scary way, just in a "we brought up xx ways to keep America safer, but some thought it more important to discuss gay marriage."

21. This is bullshit. I saw CBS tonight. I don't have good feelings
about this newscast tonight. You know, sometimes I feel kind of alone.

I listen to the newscast...and I feel they are setting us up...trying the "ooooohhh scarreeeeyyyyyy"...and my best friend and my husband EAT it up. I hear quotes like, "You know the terrorists are gonna do it again"......Hell yes, they'll probably hit Los Angeles....and I want to barf."

I want to yell....They...THEY THEY...it's Bush and his fucking crappy adminstration!

FEAR - Fear and fear.....make the lemmings follow. I just want to puke.

I'm 61 yrs old. Insurance is a scam, medicare (for my husband) sucks, more every year. Our insurance is raising co pays (we are fortunate enuf to have insurance from my retirement plan) but for how long is anyone's guess. The duration of my pension is in question due to the fact it is automobile related.

Call me a conspiracy theorist...I guess I am. I can't help myself.

I fear for my 15 grandchildren....who DO NOT HAVE A CLUE. I should say the 6 children don't have a clue. Well, actually 2 of them do.

And those two both live in another country....thank fucking God.

40. You don't seem like a "conspiracy theorist" to me.
You seem like an intelligent individual who makes an honest attempt to stay informed and are thus not easily bamboozled by lies, propaganda and efforts to discredit with meaningless terms like "conspiracy theorist"; a term which is used to attack an individual instead of the points in their argument thereby suppressing criticism of the governments activities.

The propagandists want you to become one of those lemmings, who's perceptions of reality they manipulate and mold on a daily basis. Obviously they are having no success with you. Never allow them to define your reality.

Good luck to you.

A conspiracy that depends from not one shred of evidence.

And don't get me started on this "al Qaeda" nonsense. Every piece of detailed information I have ever seen on this topic indicates that "al Qaeda" is not an organized terrorist outfit and bin Laden is not a "mastermind" of it.

The term is a euphemism that is used to label a nebulous and loosely associated group of terrorist that probably spans the globe, but as a result of their lack of organization, they are nowhere near being the threat portrayed by the "news" media.

Here is an interesting article on "al Qaeda":

In summary, “al-Qaeda” never existed in the form now claimed by the Bushites and the corporate media, “al-Qaeda” was in fact a database of CIA recruited and trained mujahideen and an email connected to that database, Osama bin Laden had nothing to do with that database and thus all references in the corporate media claiming he is the leader of “al-Qaeda” the fantastical terrorist organization are false (if not deliberately contrived lies), terrorists falsely attributed to “al-Qaeda” were organized by the U.S. military and NATO and financed by a CIA front bank in Washington (connected to two principal Straussian neocon criminals) and unleashed in Bosnia (assisting the drug-running KLA mafia), and the CIA front bank later shared a connection with prominent Saudi Arabians who are suspected of financing the nine eleven hijackers (since the hijackers did not actually exist, this money was probably used elsewhere in the nine eleven operation). All of this information was predictably discarded by nine eleven whitewash commission.

52. Last time I checked, five of the hijackers named by the FBI
as having perished in the attacks of 9/11 were reported "alive" in their host countries. A couple claimed their passports had been stolen.

As far as I know, this discrepancy was passed over in silence by the official 9/11 Commission in its final report.

First thought was "Yep...right on time...scare the hell out of the public...blah, blah, blah.

Of course, that is the same reaction I have had for every "terror" story since shortly after 9-11.

The amazing thing is the the yahoos who make up the chimps base lap it up every time.

I only hope that with his support in the high 20's, low 30's range this time the public sees through the bullshit.

35. For a long time there was very little talk, even. It was almost unheard
anywhere. They had all the bases covered, controlling all the branches of government, and the media. You remember Ari Fleisher even intimidated the reporters who came for the daily briefings.

For an eternity it appeared anyone who DARED to speak out against anything Republican would be branded as anti-American. There are any number of stories bearing out the extremes people went to immediately, and over several years.

I don't think the fear is gone yet, but people are speaking up much more now, and I have no doubt whatsoever they plan to crack the whip and try to scare everyone right back into line before things get too far out of control. Remember how much of our freedom they have taken already. That won't be given back by these guys: they will use it to strengthen their grip.

First off of course I hope there is no attack or at least that they aren't asleep at the wheel THIS TIME.

That being said-I know the MSM would do what it can for the Republicans but at this point I can't see Joe and Jane Six-pack giving them credit for failing again. I am aware at how the media can direct attention away from blame but I think that most people are so fed up with the party in power (the Dems too) that there are no more free passes.

59. Of course they know
because the RCMP, under orders from our new neo-conwannabee bush-loving government deliberately set those people up as patsies.

Not only did the “terrorists” in Canada not have a target for their so-called fertilizer bomb, the fertilizer was delivered by the RCMP as part of a sting operation (i.e., the suspects were framed), according to the Toronto Star. “Sources say investigators who had learned of the group’s alleged plan to build a bomb were controlling the sale and transport of the massive amount of fertilizer, a key component in creating explosives. Once the deal was done, the RCMP-led anti-terrorism task force moved in for the arrests…. At a news conference yesterday morning, the RCMP displayed a sample of ammonium nitrate and a crude cell phone detonator they say was seized in the massive police sweep when the 17 were taken into custody. However, they made no mention of the police force’s involvement in the sale.”<snip>

<snip>The Americans, my interlocutor suspected, are trying to provoke an Iraqi civil war so that Sunni Muslim insurgents spend their energies killing their Shia co-religionists rather than soldiers of the Western occupation forces. "I swear to you that we have very good information," my source says, finger stabbing the air in front of him. "One young Iraqi man told us that he was trained by the Americans as a policeman in Baghdad and he spent 70 per cent of his time learning to drive and 30 per cent in weapons training. They said to him: 'Come back in a week.' When he went back, they gave him a mobile phone and told him to drive into a crowded area near a mosque and phone them. He waited in the car but couldn't get the right mobile signal. So he got out of the car to where he received a better signal. Then his car blew up."

Impossible, I think to myself. But then I remember how many times Iraqis in Baghdad have told me similar stories. These reports are believed even if they seem unbelievable. And I know where much of the Syrian information is gleaned: from the tens of thousands of Shia Muslim pilgrims who come to pray at the Sayda Zeinab mosque outside Damascus. These men and women come from the slums of Baghdad, Hillah and Iskandariyah as well as the cities of Najaf and Basra. Sunnis from Fallujah and Ramadi also visit Damascus to see friends and relatives and talk freely of American tactics in Iraq.

"There was another man, trained by the Americans for the police. He too was given a mobile and told to drive to an area where there was a crowd - maybe a protest - and to call them and tell them what was happening. Again, his new mobile was not working. So he went to a landline phone and called the Americans and told them: 'Here I am, in the place you sent me and I can tell you what's happening here.' And at that moment there was a big explosion in his car."<snip>

And how do they know? Just how do they know there will be an attack in the United States? Whoever could be behind it?

<snip>Rumsfeld's influential Defense Science Board 2002 Summer Study on Special Operations and Joint Forces in Support of Countering Terrorism says in its classified "outbrief" -- a briefing drafted to guide other Pentagon agencies -- that the global war on terrorism "requires new strategies, postures and organization."

The board recommends creation of a super-Intelligence Support Activity, an organization it dubs the Proactive, Preemptive Operations Group, (P2OG), to bring together CIA and military covert action, information warfare, intelligence, and cover and deception.

Among other things, this body would launch secret operations aimed at "stimulating reactions" among terrorists and states possessing weapons of mass destruction -- that is, for instance, prodding terrorist cells into action and exposing themselves to "quick-response" attacks by U.S. forces. <snip>
