Ex-Ohio Investment Official Pleads Guilty

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A former senior official at Ohio's $15 billion insurance fund
for injured workers admitted Wednesday in federal court that he took a bribe
in exchange for government investment opportunities.

Terrence Gasper, 59, also agreed to work with prosecutors in their continuing
investigation into the state scandal.

Gasper, the first official of the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation to be charged
in the investment scandal, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count
of racketeering for accepting a gift for business deals.

The charges against Gasper are the first in an expected series of charges against
others connected with the bureau's investments, Franklin County Prosecutor
Ron O'Brien said.

Ex-Government Official Pleads Guilty in Workers' Comp Scandal

COLUMBUS (AP) -- A former senior official at the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation admitted Wednesday to taking bribes for government investment opportunities, including $25,000 he says he accepted from a man who handled the agency's investment in rare coins. Terrence Gasper, former chief financial officer at Ohio's insurance fund for injured workers, pleaded guilty in federal court to a racketeering charge and in state court to money laundering and failing to report gifts.
He also said he was working with prosecutors in their continuing investigation of the investment scandal.
