Hillary Clinton calls Coulter's 9/11 remarks "vicious"
Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 05:05 PM by Charlie Brown
http://www.syracuse.com/newsflash/national/index.ssf?/base/news-17/1149715156264770.xml&storylist=ny

WASHINGTON (AP) — New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton accused commentator Ann Coulter of making a "vicious, mean-spirited attack" on outspoken 9/11 widows whom the television pundit described as "self-obsessed" and enjoying their husbands' deaths.

Coulter writes in a new book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," that a group of New Jersey widows whose husbands perished in the World Trade Center act "as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them."

She also wrote, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."

"Perhaps her book should have been called 'Heartless,'" the senator said. "I know a lot of the widows and family members who lost loved ones on 9/11. They never wanted to be a member of a group that is defined by the tragedy of what happened."

The New York Democrat and former first lady said she found it "unimaginable that anyone in the public eye could launch a vicious, mean-spirited attack on people whom I've known over the last four and a half years to be concerned deeply about the safety and security of our country."

New York's Republican Gov. George Pataki also voiced anger and surprise at Coulter's words.

Coulter appeared Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show, and stuck by her stance, saying the women used their grief "to make a political point."

The women, who are still pushing for changes in how the government guards against future attacks, issued a joint statement after Coulter's television appearance.

"We have been slandered. Contrary to Ms. Coulter's statements, there was no joy in watching men that we loved burn alive. There was no happiness in telling our children that their fathers were never coming home again. We adored these men and miss them every day," the women said.

54. She's an official Republican Party SpokesMAN
I haven't heard any Republicans disagreeing with or chastizing her, have you? On the contrary, I've seen and heard some in agreement concerning not only 9/11 widows, but Gold Star Mothers as well. Each time, after any one of her overtly offensive sadistic statements, Republicans have enjoyed defending her? Why? Because she speaks for damn near everyone of them.

4. The biggest problem with Ann Coulter
is that the mainstream media keeps giving her a forum. There's no way that she should have any bigger forum than a street corner to rant and rave on. Instead she gets continuously put on all these mainstream programs, as well as being invited to speak at universities, and getting printed by major publishers.

She's one of the main reasons that I completely stopped watching the "news" channels.

10. I agree. I don't know why anyone dignifies her trash with a response and
and plays into her hands. There's nothing worse than being ignored. Any response from anyone just gets her more airtime.

She should be dismissed. All this is her PR campaign which expected 'shock' and 'awe' at the pretend outrageousness of her remarks. They plan it, and she is stupid enough to be the front person for the money makers. Although her books are being given away free on RW sites, so I don't think she's much of a moneymaker anymore.

She's an aging harpy and taking up valuable airtime which should be devoted to, eg, the trial of David Safavian, or the Aipac pre-trial motions, the unprecedented number of Republicans under indictment, investigation or already convicted of corruption.

If I were a public figure and anyone asked me about her remarks, I would just say, I wouldn't know about them, I'm not into tabloid nonsense when our country is in so much trouble as a result of the current Republican leadership. Use her to slam Republicans.

I would simply ignore any questions regarding this worthless, lying, pathetic middle-aged woman incongruously dressed up like a teen-ager. Since she never had a husband, she's not qualified to speak about the subject anyway.

18. Agreed
I think Senator Clinton, If she discussed Ms. Coulter at ALL, should have done so in a dismissive manner maybe "Is this what the right wing/Republicans stands for? Interesting" or some such statement.
She validated Ms. Colter existence by that response.
On the other hand, maybe by calling attention to her, people will actually look at what she is saying, which is horrid, usually bigoted, wrong, and ignorant.
I would love to see the right HAVE to distance themselves from her. Then maybe she's go away.

6. Why does Coulter keep attacking? Here's why:
Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 05:18 PM by katinmn
Our right wing members of the Republican Cult put her on a pedastal for doing it. They adore her. They want to be like her. She's one of them: Souless, selfish, opportunistic, and ugly. They name her as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in the World.

Fuck you, Time Magazine, for celebrating hatred. Fuck you for pissing me off enough to even comment about the demented bitch.

Edit: Photo removed.
Ann Coulter arrives at a dinner to celebrate Time 100, Time Magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Monday, May 8, 2006 in New York. The group of outspoken 9/11 widows who pushed for the commission to investigate the attacks are "self-obsessed" and act "as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them," the conservative author charges in her new book. Coulter appeared on NBC's "Today" show on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, marking the release of "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," and reiterated her stand. (AP Photo/Jason DeCrow)

I wouldn't wipe my shit hole with Ann Coulter's book. Now, I might just consider using her hair. I'd be afraid she'd bite me though.
A shit stick with no real reason for being on tv or radio in the first place will go away if ignored.
In fact, the mainstream media is really disgusting me more than ever. People should demand that these news channels ONLY put people on tv or radio if and only if they have verified, truthful things to say. This misinformation is a confusing waste of time and if getting America nowhere. The American people don't have time to sit around and filter out all of this bullshit that comes across the tv and radio. We are too busy trying to keep our credit card bills paid!

Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 07:55 PM by eowyn_of_rohan
It is a vile word that imples that female genitalia is offensive and disgusting. Is there an equivalent word for male genitalia that is also used as an insult? "He's a dick" doesn't have the same weight. I LOATHE coulter and think she is one of the most repulsive human beings in the public eye. But that word you used insults all women.

I want to add, perhaps Sen. Frank Lautenberg said it best:
"(Her) antics and accompanying vulgarity deserve our deepest contempt."

But words often get new meanings and nuances through usage beyond their possible beneficent anatomical meaning. You are very aware of what I mean.

I note that my original post has been deleted. George Carlin used to say there were seven words you couldn't use on TV. In my brief tenure on DU I have already inadvertently discovered one.

Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 10:50 PM by Psephos
Each side's partisans overlook their own little horror in the closet.

Anyone remember Rall's attacks on widows and relatives of 9/11 victims, and most disgustingly, on Daniel Pearl's wife? Rall drew her as a tacky and shameless self-promoter who loved the after-the-beheading publicity. One panel showed her at a microphone, exclaiming, "It's a bummer that they slashed my husband's throat -- but the worst was having to watch the Olympics alone." I still remember the pornographic video showing the heroic mujahideen holding Pearl's severed head by the hair. Looked a little more than "slashed" to me.

Coulter and Rall should be handcuffed together and locked in a room with a carving knife. Nasty people deserve nasty people.

Consider this my entreaty for us here to be less nasty. There are some voices on the other side of the political spectrum making similar calls. Sounds like a patch of common ground to me.

Peace.
