Bush stresses Iran time pressure (recycled rhetoric-wks vs months)

Iran must give an answer within weeks to an international offer of incentives to suspend its nuclear programme, the US president has said.

George W Bush said Iran had to respond to the offer in "weeks, not months", a first clear time frame since the offer. Major powers want Iran to curb uranium enrichment in return for relaxing restrictions on trade and agriculture.

Separately, Austria's EU president said on Friday that Iran had to respond by the time of the G8 summit in July. Speaking alongside the Danish prime minister at his retreat in Camp David, Maryland, Mr Bush repeated that Iran would face consequences if it failed to respond.

"We've given the Iranians a limited period of time - you know, weeks, not months - to digest a proposal to move forward. And if they choose not to verifiably suspend their programme, then there will be action taken within the UN Security Council," he said.,,(more@link)

2. One would think they could come up with a better slogan this time
"weeks, not months" is too obvious

5. that's a classic con man technique
"We must act now -- or else!"

Meaning, or else people will see what bullshit he's peddling. Then he'll keep repeating the cost of not acting is much higher than the cost of actually jumping in, which we know from Iraq is patently false.

7. Exactly why he needed to rush for Iraq. Inspectors weren't finding WMDs
and he knew that the longer it went on w/o finding WMDs, the weaker his case for invasion got.

8. Yes, go while the fervor is high. If you wait for evidence, won't happen.

11. They caved completely on Iran
Iran called their bluff. Time is on Iran's side.

I don't think the Iranian's are weak or vulnerable enough to sign a deal similar in nature to the 1994 Agreed Framework that N. Korea agreed to. Yet, the fact that the bushista's offered such a framework to Iran means they are bluffing. I'm sure the Iranians know this. They are just playing the fool along with his game.
