Bush's Approval Up On Zarqawi's Death, But It May Not Last

For one day at least, President Bush was more popular than he's been all year.

The president's lagging poll numbers got a swift boost from Thursday's news that U.S. warplanes had killed Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the most wanted-terrorist in Iraq.

Polling done on Thursday for the IBD/TIPP Presidential Leadership Index gave Bush a 44.2 rating, up from 39.1 in the prior days of June and 38.9 in May. The last time the Index reached this level was in December, when it hit 44.3.

1. I don't buy it...
I think they're fudging the numbers.

Killing one guy isn't going to change shit. And I think more and more Americans are waking up to that fact.

15. Agreed. Zucchini was a disgusting piece of schlep...
But that doesn't automatically translate into Bush saving the world so we can all have our jobs and livelihoods and be happy.

We fight them over there so they won't interfere with our corporate interests over there.

2. The media blitz over it might boost the numbers
Instead of actually informing us about what is happening in our world they spend many days obsessing over the death of Zarqawi, mostly making useless statements and adulations.

4. A temporary bump up. Wait until the next suicide or IED bombing.
Then it's back to reality.

6. More dumb idiots buying Bush's propaganda? I did a quick poll though
Today I decided to ask people on the train who Zarqawi was. I 'interviewed' about 30. Not one knew who he was. When I explained who he was they said that there is no solution to Iraq and he would be replaced very quickly. Then a couple of them asked why hasn't the US govt. caught Osama BinLadin.

I'm talking about "investors.com" as well as the average brain-dead knuckle-dragging basement-dwelling bushbot. their lives revolve around "the score" for their beleagured hero. deep in the black hole where ordinary humans have a heart, there is a rustling, a glimmer that things aren't right, but the connection to their brains is dysfunctional, so they are left to mindlessly cheer when it appears "their side" has made a touchdown, when it appears for a brief and fleeting moment that, yes, insanity, death and destruction might have a chance of "winning." let the losers have their 15 seconds of glory. they are pitiable but loathsome in their ignorance and worthlessness.

14. Proof that some of our fellow Americans...
are as dumb as a bag of rocks. :dunce: And as soon as there's some big negative news event involving Bush, they'll shift back to disapproving. Crowd-followers, completely incapable of an original thought.
