CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- Al-Qaida in Iraq vowed Sunday to carry out ''major attacks,'' insisting in a Web statement that it was still powerful after the death of leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

The statement did not name a successor to al-Zarqawi, who was killed by a U.S. airstrike last week. But it said the group's leadership ''renews its allegiance'' to Osama bin Laden.

It vowed ''to prepare major attacks that will shake the enemy like an earthquake and rattle them out of sleep.''

The authenticity of the statement could not be independently confirmed. It was posted on an Islamic militant Web forum where the group has posted statements in the past.

8. Back in 2002 and 2003
I looked at some. Moderately gruesome, on some days. Maybe 10 or so.

Mostly filled with bombast and neutered threats, the ones in English. Rather like many other sites, mostly populated by wannabes, with, no doubt, a certain percentage of operatives pretending to be wannabes in order to net those ready to do something. Possibly a few doers, but who would do and would would merely vent, that's hard to say.

I looked at a few in Arabic; they tended to be more gruesome, but since I knew essentially no Arabic, I can't opine as to what the content of the sites was beyond the graphics.

I'd send you the bookmarks, but last year I went to look at them again, after a long hiatus, and picking up a bare smattering of Arabic. Most were gone, my Arabic was still insufficient--there are better ways of finding 'authentic accessible texts' in Arabic for study; the English sites were simply mots (more of the same).

If you rummage around in the anti-jihadi sites that are extant you may run into a links page. Just as many DUers find out about new 911 sites, or mercury/autism links, and there are people that look out for American hate sites (whether Christian or secular, anti-black or anti-Jewish), there are people that are busy watching the Islamist hate sites.

4. Boogeyman Zarqawi means zilch if some idot had not invaded Iraq.
He only means something because a court appointed murderer started a war crime that Zarqawi could nurture his agenda upon. Brit Hume is a total dumb ass as he is spouting that this really means something. It only means something to those folks stupid enough to believe his propaganda.
