Minutemen work to rebuild image

For Dana Isham, leader of the Western Colorado Minutemen, the struggle to create a lasting Western Slope movement against illegal immigration is a “PR war.”

Isham, who founded the group in late April after returning from border patrols in southern Arizona, said he hopes over the next few months to show the public that his group is not some proto-military organization, but rather a group of concerned, average citizens.

“Image is everything, I think about it every day,” Isham said. “The problem we have is ‘Minutemen’ are associated with militias, by virtue of name, by virtue of history.”

On the Western Colorado Minutemen’s Web site, http://www.westerncoloradominutemen.org , Isham has included, in addition to the mission statement of the group, a form for people interested in joining. As part of the membership form, prospective members are asked to submit $10 for a Colorado Bureau of Investigation background check. Isham said this would allow him to comb out the “bad apple applicants.”

like running a background check to eliminate yahoos, "reaching out to the Latin-Anglo Alliance and the Immigrant Rights Coalition", the commitment to “filter out a few conspiracy theory buffs or people who hope to hijack the Western Colorado Minutemen to promote their own agenda, unrelated to immigration", etc.

But...I just can't get past the fact that I see Homer Simpsons Vigilante Commission in Springfield when I read this stuff. It's probably not fair of me, but I still think they're a whole bunch of gun-toting, beer-swilling, xenophobic, gay-hating Sprinfieldians.

One note: The vision of Homer Simpson came to me when he mentioned community service. All I could see and hear was Homer Simpson talking about "branching out into literacy programs" in the Cat-byrglar, vigilante committee episode.

Total lack of social skills, only interaction with others was to throw out the occasional "bomb" on our neighborhood listserv (endorsement of conservative political views, etc. - our listserv is for neighborhood news, not that crap). He got tossed for a short "cooling off" period, and started his own listserv. I think the four repubs in our neighborhood of 350 houses are on that list, and as far as I can see, they get to pretty much type amongst themselves.

They are mostly white trash rednecks who sit on their fat asses on lawn chairs at the the border and harass the poor people who only want to have a better life for themselves. I am also curious to why they are on other non-border states. The ones here in VA harass the employers for hiring suspected illegals. Why is it any of their damn business?

Yup. Can't have anybody harrasing the employers who want to pay people $5.00 an hr!

If we don't keep wages low, inflation may go up. These companies are doing the American worker a favor by hiring illegals.
