Pew Poll: U.S. in Iraq Greater Threat Than Iran
WASHINGTON (AP) - The presence of U.S. troops in Iraq is considered a greater threat to Mideast stability than the current government in Iran, according to a new poll of European and Muslim countries. The poll found that people in Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Russia rated the presence of troops in Iraq higher than the government in Iran as a threat, according to polling by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press. Views of U.S. troops in Iraq were even more negative in countries like Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and Pakistan.

. . .

America's image rebounded in some countries last year after the U.S. offered aid to tsunami victims, but those gains have disappeared, the Pew poll found.

The 15-nation poll also found:

_Overall support for the U.S.-led war on terrorism has declined even among close allies.

_Favorable opinions of the United States continue to fall, with sharp declines in Spain, Turkey and India.

_Majorities in 10 of 14 foreign countries _ including Britain _ say the Iraq war has made the world more dangerous.

_Concern about global warming is low in China and United States, the two largest producers of greenhouse gases, while high elsewhere.

6. Hasn't she been on this PR campaign for a couple of years?
If she was employed by anyone else, they would SO fire her ass. Lucky for her to have an employer that rewards incompetence.

9. Here's the link to the actual report, oh the damage they have done...
<http://pewglobal.org/reports/display.php?ReportID=252>

...A year ago, anti-Americanism had shown some signs of abating, in part because of the positive feelings generated by U.S. aid for tsunami victims in Indonesia and elsewhere. But favorable opinions of the United States have fallen in most of the 15 countries surveyed. Only about a quarter of the Spanish public (23%) expresses positive views of the U.S., down from 41% last year; America's image also has declined significantly in India (from 71% to 56%) and Indonesia (from 38% to 30%)....

12. A country that has invaded another country is considered more of a threat
to world peace than a country that hasn't invaded another country? This is hardly a surprising result.

many people in the world know about the criminal PNAC and their Evil plans, including their "New Pearl Harbor" they whished for... and either 'got' (how convenient...), LIHOP, or even MIHOP vs how many people inside America know about the$e gang$ta$.

14. US 'biggest global peace threat'
People in European and Muslim countries see US policy in Iraq as a bigger threat to world peace than Iran's nuclear programme, a survey has shown.

The survey by the Pew Research Group also found support for US President George W Bush and his "war on terror" had dropped dramatically worldwide.

18. IHT: Image of U.S. falls again
Image of U.S. falls again
By Brian Knowlton International Herald Tribune
Published: June 13, 2006

As the war in Iraq continues for a fourth year, the global image of America has slipped further, even among publics in countries closely allied with the United States, a new global opinion poll has found.

Favorable views of the United States dropped sharply over the past year in Spain, where only 23 percent now say they have a positive opinion, down from 41 percent in 2005, according to the survey, which was carried out in 15 nations this spring by the Pew Research Center. In Britain, Washington's closest ally in the Iraq war, positive views of America have remained in the mid-50s in the past two years, still down sharply from 75 percent in 2002.

Other countries where positive views dropped significantly include India (56 percent, down from 71 percent since 2005); Russia (43 percent, down from 52 percent); and Indonesia (30 percent, down from 38 percent).

In Turkey, a NATO ally of the United States, only 12 percent said they held a favorable opinion, down from 23 percent last year....

***

The ebbing of positive views of the United States coincides with a spike in feeling that the war in Iraq has made the world a more dangerous place. This perception was shared by majorities in 10 of the countries surveyed, including Britain, where 60 percent said the world had become more dangerous since Saddam Hussein's removal from power in 2003....

20. Here's a worrying result from the poll
(full questionnaire at http://pewglobal.org/reports/pdf/252topline.pdf )

Q.42 Now I will read a list of some things that have happened in the world recently. For each one,
please tell me if you’ve heard of it or not.
...
c. Reports about abuses in American run prisons at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo and elsewhere
United States: 76% Heard of it; 23% Never heard of it; 1% Don't know

23% of Americans haven't heard of the abuses? :wow: That's either astounding ignorance, or complete denial. For comparison, the answer for another international story - "the dispute about Iran’s nuclear program" - was 83% heard of it, 17% hadn't (and 92% had heard about bird flu).

23. Indians most bullish on Bush
TRUST INDIANS to be different from everyone else, even in the way they like the United States. This year's Pew Global Attitudes Survey says Indians' favourable ratings for the United States has dropped sharply from last year. But approval for President George W. Bush has risen.

While the Pew Foundation argues Iraq has tarnished the US image, this is clearly not the case with Indians:

Indian support for the United States-led war on terrorism was 65 per cent — the highest in the world and 13 points more than last year.

A majority of Indians continue to believe the world is safer after Saddam Hussein's removal. A remarkable 59 per cent believe United States’ efforts to establish democracy in Iraq will succeed — more than most Americans.

The Great Offshoring Story

Last year alone, outsourcing in India grew over 25 per cent, and India continued its domination over other competing countries such as China, Ireland, Israel and the Philippines. No wonder projections are flying thick and fast.
