House just voted to ban any foreign ownership of US airline.
This was announced on CNN as "just in". I checked and there's no link yet.

4. Yes they are, but they did the right thing on this one.
I admit to being prejudiced on this topic becasue my son works for one of the legacy carriers, but trying to look beyond concern for his job, it still would be bad for US airlines to be owned by a foreign country!

7. It's definitely a defeat for the White Hou$e and bloated corporations
maybe now we can have more efficient, safe, and accountable airline regulations.

8. Reciprocity and ownership
It might sound good in theory, but international crossownership is how trade
works, and the USA owns a hell of a lot of companies outside its borders.
What you are saying is that every single ameircan company should have to sell
off their foreign operations. Consider what that means to the economy before
you run too far with that basketball. It works 2 ways, and the USA owns most
of the world, so look to a huge collapse for following that path. I recommend
reading the article at link...

There is as well, a sort of paranoia that the rest of the world is not as smart
or capable or trustworthy as the USA. Yet these lesser places, are less violent,
are actually democracies in many cases!!, and can govern their corporations much
more effectively than the US does. The illusion that its "better" in the US is
part of the problem. The prison propaganda machine tries to inform the public
that its a desert out there past the borders, a collapsed 3rd world disaster,
"Don't leave... stay in the prison and take the new slavery." If people
realized that, now after so many years of offshoring, that the core competence of
industry is actually offshore, they would be more realistic in their nationalism.

International transport is something the US, for all the apearance, is rather juvenile
at, as it does not do the kind of massive internationl trade that some european
operations do, operating across borders, languages, and regulatory systems, yet still
providing better data security, (privacy) and passenger safety. The planes flow
in to the world trade center were american carriers...

13. If foreign ownership is such a wonderful thing then
let's sell off our southern border security to Mexico, our military equipment manufacturing to Communist China, our port security to Cuba, our oil companies to Saudi Arabia, and our voting machines to Russia. I'm sure they would jump at the chance to own and operate those strategic industries.

While American companies first allegiance is to profits, then to outrageous CEO pay and their last allegiance to their country, we can trust Mexico, Communist China, Saudi Arabia and Russia to make business decisions that are in the best interest of the United States.

12. You have a point there...because we keep bailing out these Airlines
...but now we are telling the rest of the world they can't buy a share of our airlines, hence, the next time these airline execatives screw up again, we the tax bayers are alone bailing them out. Smart, very smart!

14. What difference would it make, since we have foreign ownership of the US?
China and Saudi Arabia own the US because they have been lending us money to fund our tax breaks to the rich, not to mention the war.

Sorry to do a mini rant, this is semi-sarcastic.
