Lieberman must decide whether to run as independent candidate
http://www.courant.com/news/local/statewire/hc-14120739.apds.m0538.bc-ct--liebjun14,0,3086924.story

His campaign staffers contend they're focusing only on winning on the Aug. 8 primary. But Lieberman himself has not ruled out petitioning his way onto the November ballot as part of his backup plan to garner a fourth term in the U.S. Senate.

"I am not going to close out any options," he recently told reporters.

Lieberman has until Aug. 9 - the day after the Democratic primary - to collect 7,500 signatures from registered voters to land on the November ballot as an unaffiliated candidate.

<snip>

Christopher Kukk, an associate political science professor at Western Connecticut State University, said it's a risk Lieberman may be willing to take if Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont continues to gain in the polls.

"I think he'll alienate Democratic voters, but to be honest with you, I think he already has alienated Democratic voters," Kukk said. "If Lamont is gaining ... I think you'll see Lieberman jump."

***

He would almost definitely have to announce his run as an independent before the primary in order to collect the signatures necessary to appear on the ballot.

20. That photo symbolizes much of what is wrong with this country.
A criminal cabal and an enabling "opposition" party.

Sickening.

I hope we get rid of both of these two-faced "Democrats."

Time to take back the party from the appeasers and run these asshole enablers to the republican party where they belong!

12. The Three people I never will support !
:hi: Great picture! Hillary is taking the liberal vote for granted by supporting the Iraq war. Hillary isn’t listening, and while her ears remained covered, thousands of Americans and scores of thousands of Iraqis have died. Isn’t it time for a change in 2008? :eyes: :kick:

19. She doesn't have to.
Her opposition is scant at best. The New York GOP is poison; they can't elect anybody statewide anymore.

6. I really believe that no matter what happens Lamont will win.
Let Joey turn tail and run as an indy -- Lamont has set it up so he can't do it without stabbing the state dems in the back. Joey is in a lose lose situation -- good for him.. He turned his back on us and now we turn our backs on him.

9. I agree.
If Lieberman loses the primary and runs as an independent, Democrats won't vote for him because he turned his back on the party and Republicans won't vote for him becuase they'll smell blood and want to vote for their own guy.

Lieberman, I honestly believe, is done.

And if Lieberman runs indy, he's moves from a DINO to a RATEEN (Repuke About Totally Everything Except Name).

even diebold can't make a machine so good that it will proclaim someone as the winner whose name isn't even on the ballot.

24. And think of all the dough he would be losing
The DLC, the DNC, Democratic PACS, lukewarm Joe supporters trying to keep party unity....

He'll have to survive on the hardcore Joe fans and corporate money.

Is this a palatable candidate for CT voters?
