Iraq Announces Info From Al-Zarqawi Raid
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 07:50 AM by Rose Siding
BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Iraq's national security adviser said Thursday a "huge treasure" of documents and computer records was seized after the raid on terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's hideout, giving the Iraqi government the upper hand in its fight against al-Qaida in Iraq.

National Security Adviser Mouwafak al-Rubaie also said he believed the security situation in the country would improve enough to allow a large number of U.S.-led forces to leave Iraq by the end of this year, and a majority to depart by the end of next year. "And maybe the last soldier will leave Iraq by mid-2008," he said......

When asked how he could be sure the information was authentic, al-Rubaie said "there is nothing more authentic than finding a thumbdrive in his pocket."

"We believe that this is the beginning of the end of al-Qaida in Iraq," al-Rubaie said, adding that the documents showed al-Qaida is in "pretty bad shape," politically and in terms of training, weapons and media.

"Now we have the upper hand," he said at a news conference in Baghdad. "We feel that we know their locations, the names of their leaders, their whereabouts, their movements, through the documents we found during the last few days."

1. According to CNN ( and maybe later in the article)
I haven't read it yet, but AlQueda in Iran was trying to gin up a war on a second front to weaken the US...in Iran. So, the folks who said that the best thing for "the terrorists" was a war in Iran are once again proven right. One more nail in the Iran war coffin.
If the Democrats are smart they will use this info to block any action in Iran.

Documents: Al-Qaida Seeks U.S.-Iran War
A blueprint for trying to start a war between the United States and Iran was among a "huge treasure" of documents found in the hideout of terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Iraqi officials said Thursday.

The document, purporting to reflect al-Qaida policy and its cooperation with groups loyal to ousted President Saddam Hussein. The document also said al-Zarqawi planned to try to destroy the relationship between the United States and its Shiite allies in Iraq.

"Generally speaking and despite the gloomy present situation, we find that the best solution in order to get out of this crisis is to involve the U.S. forces in waging a war against another country or any hostile groups," the document said.

They included "opening a new front" for the U.S. military and releasing some of the "pressure exerted on the resistance." It said the "results obtained during the struggle between U.S. army and al-Mahdi army is an example of the benefits to be gained by such struggle."

3. Didn't they say the same thing about his laptop a year or so ago?
from the April 27, 2005 edition

WASHINGTON – The United States military has not yet managed to catch Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the top Al Qaeda-linked terrorist in Iraq. But they have perhaps snagged the next best thing: his laptop.

In today's Internet world even a brutal terror figure apparently carries his life on a personal electronic device. A February raid by a covert US military unit came so close to Zarqawi that he fled from the vehicle in which he was traveling on foot, leaving his computer behind, say government sources.

On the hard drive was everything from information about Zarqawi's medical condition to pictures of himself, kept in a file labeled "My Pictures."

4. are they that stupid?
let's look back on this a month from now and see if they are still riding high as they are now

three plus years of screw ups, and now almost overnight, one "victory" after another

They are pathological liars, facilitated by the MSM

In the very short course of time we will see if they are telling the truth about their progress

5. If they really DID find a trove of information...
...THEY ARE FUCKING IDIOTS FOR TALKING ABOUT IT TO THE PRESS!!!!!!!!!!

Since they ARE blabbing about it, I'd have to assume either a) They are entirely incompetent or b) There wasn't much really useful in there, so now they're just trying to get some good PR (aka "we're making progress") from the whole thing.

Exactly! It's either complete stupidity, or propaganda. Divulging this information would be like Churchill announcing to the world that "Operation Ultra" had broken the German's Enigma encryption machines. There is no reason to announce this, unless you are trying to prop up a "certain politicians" poll numbers prior to some upcoming elections.

Codename Ultra
"British intelligence operation that cracked the German secret code during World War II. The collection phase of Ultra consisted of intercepting German radio messages (which had been encrypted by their Enigma machines) and passing them through a secret computerlike device that rendered them into clear German. The intelligence gathered was passed on to Allied officials for utilization on the battlefield."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There may be some useful information, and frankly, I hope there is something they can use to make our troops safer, or leaders smarter, and the terrorist more vulnerable...BUT, (and that's a big BUT), it is more likely that if the information was as useful as this guy is saying, we would not hear about it until after our troops are home and the insurgency is defeated.

A good way to tell what the purpose of this "leak" would be to look at the reaction of the wing-nuts on the right. Remember, they screamed "treason" when some reporter wrote a story about Osama's cell-phone (#2 on Chimpy's speed dial). If this story is meant to prop up Bush, you'll see it "championed" at the wing-nut websites and talk radio. That will tell you the real purpose.

My question to the wing-nuts is this: When is this guy going to be prosecuted for revealing this information?
