Pardon talk for Libby begins

WASHINGTON -- Now that top White House aide Karl Rove is off the hook in the CIA leak probe, President George W. Bush must weigh whether to pardon former vice presidential aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, the only one indicted in the three-year investigation.

Speculation about a pardon began in late October, soon after Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald unsealed the perjury indictment of Libby, and it continued last week after Fitzgerald chose not to charge Rove.

"I think ultimately, of course, there are going to be pardons," said Joseph diGenova, a former prosecutor and an old Washington hand who shares that view with many pundits.

"These are the kinds of cases in which historically presidents have given pardons," said the veteran Republican attorney.
The White House remains mum on the president's intentions. Spokeswoman Dana Perino declined to comment Friday.

The trial will expose the plot to discredit Wilson and, in part, the plot to trick America into thinking Saddam had WMDs. Bush can't let that happen.

It will be the ultimate demonstration to the American people that this President cares nothing about national security or keeping Americans safe.

It will show that his aides were so concerned with his political viability, that they outed a covert CIA operative with unofficial cover.

So, let him pardon Libby.

Prediction: Libby pardoned after the election, around Christmas.

Bull, only Bush Sr. pardon wrongdoers from his own administration, for crimes which he was connected to.

Most presidents have the courtesy and grace, to leave the honor to the next president.

If Bush is allowed to get away with this crap, there will never be any accountability for this misadministration.

....after he lied in order to FIX things for Father Bush a few years back. An "investigation" under the authority of diGenova, then a U.S. attorney, rigged to absolve Father Bush of criminality.

DiGenova is a known Bush FIXER.

Jeffrey Skilling is now saying he contemplated suicide.

So one has to wonder if this is an effort to garner some sympathy, in order to obtain a pardon.

I'm a very compassionate person, and I'll cry for people at the drop of a hat, but it's hard for me to be very sympathetic towards Skilling when many of Enron's employees are not out of their life savings because of him.

But the timing of a pardon, the attorney suggested, likely would depend on the outcome of the midterm elections.

If Republicans retain control of Congress, Bush could act swiftly. But if Democrats win control of the House or Senate, Bush might wait, and use Libby's trial as an excuse not to cooperate with any congressional investigations into the leak.

If Libby starts pointing fingers and sings, then Bush might not pardon him. If he remains a good little Bundist, he might be. However, you get bet your sweet Pioneer Status that Lay and Delay will be getting "get out of jail free" cards. I could also see a blanket pardon for the entire administration, a la Ford.
