Police call for (House) ethics review of McKinney
Officers: Decision not to charge says OK to strike an officer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Police labor officials, angry over a federal grand jury's refusal to indict Rep. Cynthia McKinney for assaulting a police officer, said Monday said they want the House ethics committee to review her conduct.

And they said the grand jury's decision last week sent the message that "it's okay to hit a police officer."

"We hope that members of Congress will review her actions in light of their rules within their own ethics committee," Andrew Maybo, chairman of the U.S. Capitol Police Labor Committee, told reporters Monday at a news conference in Washington.

Maybo said the Fraternal Order of Police would send a letter later this week to the ethics committee suggesting that McKinney's behavior violated an item in the chamber's ethics manual that calls for members to "conduct at all times in a manner which shall reflect creditably on the House of Representatives."

As I predicted last Friday, this isn't over. It will be a big event on the floor of the House.

11. The problem has ended....
The Grand Jury saw the tape and made the decision it is their job to make. It's not the job of the whole freaking world to be judge, jury, and executioner.

17. I just figured the police are hiding something if they wouldn't release
the tape.

you are right, the GJ should be the end of the matter.

31. I agree -- they would have shown the tape in a second if
Rep. McKinney was shown hitting the cop. It's always been very interesting to me that they won;t show it. Now, since they legally couldn't get the Uppity Black Woman, they are trying to get her POLITICALLY. Isn't this some kind of flagrant conflict of interest or something???

Officer McKenna can sue Rep. McKinney in CIVIL court. That's what that court system is there for.

Geez... transparent as glass.

5. The House Ethics committee....
will be more just than a grand jury? That's a laugh, given what has happened to any serious action regarding the House's own ethics.

But, good news for those McKinney-hating DUers who were so quick to condemn her in the court of their own minds.

8. I like
many of her political stands...but how can we support her striking a police officer if he did not hit her? I like her and I think she has learned her lesson but if I was the cop I could see being angry.

10. You don't really know what happened.....
All you know is stuff leaked to the press by people who hate her, the circus the media made of the incident, and gossip filtered through God knows how many people.

It's the job of a grand jury to find out what REALLY happened. I will trust their decision.

28. Where is the tape of the incident? If it were truly what the GOP
said it was, we would be seeing it 24/7 on cable news.

32. How do you know she hit a police officer? You don't
You only have the word of the CAPs... that's it. The GJ didn't see a crime on the tape. And, I honestly think that tape would have been plastered on the airwaves 24/7 if it showed Rep. McKinney striking the officer.

Sure, she's a loud mouth, but it's not like she killed anyone. A LOT worse things have been done by elected officials. How about we go after them first?

14. In all fairness
The crowning didn't take place in the Capital Dome, it was done in the Rayburn building, which means a Senator had to make the arrangements to use the space.

16. Having seen "American Blackout" with her 2 weeks ago
I can say nothing but that I am damn proud of her work in Congress and in Georgia. She's an amazing Congressman, and she takes more heat for minor events than the Establishment politicians recieve for their huge crimes.

She's a rebel -- and rebels get attacked constantly.

18. It doesn't appear that CNN asked Cynthia for a response
Real quality reporting there :eyes:

She's already made a sort of apology, hasn't she?

Offering some quick support to her would give Pelosi a chance to mend some fences with some in the CBC over the Jefferson deal.

the Police Federation or the repubs? Also I wonder how many dinners the "injured" officer has been treated to since the "assault".

22. What would happen if I hit a cop?
You know...
I am so tired of this special privileges just because they are a congressmen. First Jefferson and now McKinney. If these people were white middle-class average workers and did what they did...they would be in jail today.

This government blows... Everyone is above the law.

23. What would happen if your political enemies said you hit a cop
and claimed they had video evidence to back their claim, but when that "evidence" was presented to a grand jury, the grand jury concluded that the accusation was baseless?
