Base to Bush: Stop Illegals (Washingtontimes)
Base to Bush: Stop Illegals

http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20060619-014021-3845r.htm

By Stephen Dinan
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
June 19, 2006

Top conservative leaders have written President Bush telling him to drop his insistence on a guest-worker program and a path to citizenship for illegal aliens and instead support the 85 percent of congressional Republicans who want to tighten law enforcement first.
Signers include William J. Bennett, Robert H. Bork, Ward Connerly, David A. Keene, Phyllis Schlafly and a number of think-tank academics and pundits.
The immigration debate is the first major issue on which Mr. Bush finds himself opposing a majority of Republicans in Congress and depending on Democrats to deliver a victory. In their letter, the conservatives tell Mr. Bush to side with his fellow Republicans in Congress or risk repeating the 1986 immigration law that promised enforcement and amnesty but delivered only the amnesty.

1. This is the issue that will break up the GOP...
And then the issue will transfer to the Democrats. If the Dems don't fix it, it will break us up as well.

Every opinion poll across the board is against amnesty. Every single one. Americans want the illegal aliens out and the border secured.

4. The GOP showing signs it will retake control from the Neocons
William Bennett said on CNN tonight that the GOP had turned around Bush on the Dubai ports, and would turn him around on this, too. He said "they" aggree with him on some things but not others.

The real GOP may take back control from the Blow monkey. But it will be too late.

They sold their convervative souls to a fascist.

2. They will just mess with the statistics
Do nothing that really works, but put out new numbers to show that "There's progress".

Does anybody except the base believe the official unemployment and inflation numbers?

3. great! dems can abstain and let the repubs "win" since the dems
cannot block any legislation anyway, and WILL NOT filibuster an issue.

You don't know whether to be astounded at the stupidity or shocked by the sheer scope of their criminality.

It's the not knowing that scares you.

8. I just hate the tone of rounding people up
in big stings and shipping them back home. They will be using horses in Montana and Idaho. I don't think some of these farms and ranches can survive with out Illegal help. I'm surprised that we haven't been hearing of big ranchers being busted. I bet there are a few Illegals on every farm in the US. I bet everyone of those farmers are Republicans. I don't get this big buzz over getting them out. I bet it is just some vocal minority of effing white bigots just like it is with all of the stupid, ignorant, non-issues the conservative fundamentalist type push. They have to be thinking that Mexicans are getting all the good jobs. In fact i heard some old biddy complaining that the streets in her town were lined with Illegals for the construction jobs. She said her son couldn't get a job because the contractors don't have to pay workman's' comp on Illegals and he was overlooked in favor of them.

10. And what you don't hear is about the American citizens that are
impacted by these round ups -- either directly, i.e., being rounded up, or indirectly, having a family member disappear for weeks or months and not knowing where or how they are.

Oh, and I can show you plenty of farms that don't hire undocumented workers. Family farms don't hire them, corporate criminals do.

21. Perhaps it's because they just SO desperately need something to hate.
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 11:02 AM by calimary
Something NEW, in this case. Because hating Democrats, liberals, and terr'ists just doesn't get 'em off like it used to. I mean, look how ann coulter has to ratchet it up to get a rise out of people anymore. The old drugs just aren't doing it anymore. They need a new fix. All to fuel their hatred.

The psychologists all say one hates and fears what one doesn't understand.

Perhaps it's also because the numbers still aren't there, really. Yes, bush may have gotten a bounce, but it probably won't last, considering how so many things continue to deteriorate. That won't win the war, lower gas prices, or give everybody among the haters Bill Clinton's head to kick around in the front yard. So they need something else. They need to hate and despise because it's probably the one thing that makes them feel better about themselves - to lower somebody else down below them, or demonize, or villify someone else so he/she is lower than they are. Probably also feeds into the man-crushes so many of them have on bush's codpiece and his propensity to swagger and strut when he thinks he's on top of the world. They resonate to that because they need some strength figure or some virility figure to prop up their poor pathetic loser selves.

Sick fucks, all of them.

9. Even if we had a good solution, we've given all our money to China
to finance the occupation of a country that's not making anyone richer or safer.

Except Cheney, et al.

14. They're trying to "pin"
"amnesty" and guest-workers on Democrats and w. (However, w doesn't have to run for office again.)

But at least they're mentioning Saint Ronny's precedent and example.

Besides, it's all a dog-and-pony show; the powerful aren't going to willingly or easily give up on their cheap labor, domestic or foreign. And if they get less of the former, then they'll try to make up for it by using more of the latter (eg, shipping chickens "offshore" for processing).

The best way to deal with these issues (inshoring, offshoring) is to deal with them at the same time -- and using common mechanisms where possible -- but assuring, in any event, that trying to deal with one does not exacerbate the other.

needs to fix. All for immigration, but legal, please. (second generation myself. My grandparents on both sides had to wait in line and have college degrees!) Would it not work if we just ENFORCED THE LAWS WE HAVE ON THE BOOKS ALREADY?!?

18. your grandparents never went through the immigration nightmare
that is now on the books. It is a Kafkaesque labyrinthe of conflicting laws. It is hard enough as a professional with an attorney to wade through this, never mind a worker with a grade school education and no money for an attorney.

"The immigration debate is the first major issue on which Mr. Bush finds himself opposing a majority of Republicans in Congress and depending on Democrats to deliver a victory."

Yay dems. Way to win. :argh:

Maybe they don't pay very close attention to current events.

20. Base says: "Put whites first."
This is all about the fears of white chauvinists. It's humorous, because Bush's agenda is no less racist - it just aims to have a more efficient exploitation of immigrant labor. But the heated mob of the "base" cannot see this.
