3. Short AP story
Big waves generated by a storm thousands of miles away battered Central America's Pacific Coast, destroying at least 20 houses and a small hotel in Nicaragua and Guatemala, civil defense authorities said Tuesday.

The Hurricane Center in Miami said the waves were caused by a poweful South Pacific storm that was sending 10- to 12-foot swells across the ocean.

Authorities ordered evacuations in Nicaragua as reports of high tides came in from Mexico and several Central American countries.

10. I never did that
but I sure enjoy watching such stuff on TV docmentaries like Code Black. That's about the surfing championships which were scrubbed January 1998 when waves approaching 100 feet reached Hawaii. Those were also from a storm the other side of the Pacific.

11. Surfing is fun.
I was never all that good at it, but then again I live far from the ocean and could only do it a few times a year. The people who surf those monster waves are, in my opinion, certifiably insane.

yes but what a way to go ! If you've never seen Code Black look out for it on Discovery, National Geographic, whatever. Some of them snuck past the coastguards and rode those waves filmed by an Imax film crew in 'copters who were there for the championships. The Imax movie is called Extreme.
