2. "Qur’an memorizing" is a skill absolutely essential in aviation.

I know I never would've been able to get through my check ride without being able to shriek "allah akbar" while flying toward a tall building.

Maybe those Saudis are going to flock to the USA to take that $17,000 a year to work ATC. You know...doing the jobs Americans won't.

5. this is really nothing new.
i'm not exactly sure why, but for YEARS Saudis have come in fairly large numbers to learn aviation in the US. in the mid 90's i attended a small technical college, most of the students in their avionics program were Saudis, we partied with them, etc. none turned out to be terrorists. it's interesting to note that the Saudi requirements for the aviation programs are HIGHER than for other vocations, in contrast to the 9/11 hijackers who couldn't manage a passing grade in flight school. i'm not going to get all worked up over this scholarship program.

7. Thank you...
Seems 'national security' is being used not only to get rid of wind turbines, but to also cover blatant racism based on the scripts provided by a GOP government...

And congrats in advance for your 1000th post!!

12. Thank you
Even among the Saudia, hijacking terrorists are a small minority.

People lose perspective so easily these days.

We have to assume the worst of everybody? That's the sure way to lose our freedom.

We were the number one country for aviation schools before 911, I wonder if we still are?

I can picture other countries so easily stepping into all kinds of economic benefits because we've abandoned things due to fear.

8. IOW, they're looking for intelligent men who will do as they are told.
As they are being recruited and trained for ground support jobs,
the security risk is low. Saudi Arabia has a public safety interest
in well trained personnel in its air transport system and so do we.

Qur'an memorizing is a useful filter for a ultraconservative state
that wants skilled but obedient workers who aren't so likely to run
off and go native when they reach America or take home subversive
Western ideas. That aside, having American educated foreign
professionals works towarard America's interests in the long run.

It can be a win-win for all concerned as long as Immigration watches
who comes in.

10. They did poorly
in aviation school it was said. I'm still wondering why the attackers sent their worst people. People who couldn't even really learn how to fly a plane. Seems like they would have sent their brightest.

11. Maybe that was part of the message they were sending...
"Look at what we accomplished with these IDIOTS and a few box-cutters. Now, imagine what will happen when we unleash our biologists, engineers and nuclear physicists."
